Quote: It seems silver has just gotten even harder to find in bankrolls. Guess more are in the know. People have been in the know since 1965. Even by 1974 when I started working a cash register, finding silver was very rare. I think a lot of what people find now, perhaps a majority, is people dumping a relative's old stash because they can't be bothered with going through it. There's no way the 1964 25c I got in 2016 had been actively circulating for 50 years, for example.

On my various visits to the USA since my first in 1991, I've found silver coins in circulation on two occasions, In December 2004 I got a silver Roosevelt dime in change in Macy's in New York City. Later during the same trip I was in Richmond, Virginia and noticed an old-fashioned looking bank near my hotel. I went in on impulse and asked if they had any half-dollars. The cashier said she had 17, so I got the lot. There were four 40% Kennedys including an impaired proof 1969S. On my most recent visit to the States I got a few rolls of quarters but found no silver.

I found a 1964 Washington quarter about two weeks ago, which brings my year to date total to 13 silver quarters from CRHing. Add in another quarter and 4 dimes from Coinstar finds and it has been a pretty good year for silver.

New to the forum here and a bit late to the party, but this is a fun thread. I've examined nearly every coin I've received in change since 1976 or so, and it's been really slim pickin's up here in northern Michigan. I've also bought perhaps a hundred rolls of nickels to search. In al this time, I've found four War Nickels, three dimes (1946-D, 1953-S, 1964-D), a quarter (1964-D), and 20 40% silver Kennedy halves. The last find, a 1953-S dime, happened about a year ago. I've also received a 2004-S impaired proof Wisconsin clad quarter in change a couple of year ago. Oddly, though Canada has pulled the cent from circulation, Canadian cents are still encountered in change around here about as frequently as in years past.

Found 5 silver Roosevelts and a silver Canadian dime in the past week at work. Two Roosevelts and the Canadian in customer-wrapped rolls, two Roosevelts in bank-wrapped rolls, and one as part of a customer's payment.
Edit: Oh and a 40% silver quarter a couple weeks ago. Proof I think but I'll have to find it to confirm.

From CRH (which I don't do that much of, admittedly): a 1944-P War Nickel, December 2022. From circulation or street stimulus: 1943 Mercury dime in a vending machine's change return, October 23, 2023. I've found two silver dimes this year that way.

Well, I'll just have to chime in since "any" way counts.
2023 tally 15 War Nicks Roughly 40 dimes: Seated (just 1), Barber, Merc, Roosie Dozen Quarters including a 1901 sans S :-) Barber - One was a 1919-D SLQ that straight-graded XF45 4 Halfs - all Walking 1 1922 Peace
I guess I'm cheating by metal detecting but, theoretically they are still in circulation.
