Can't recall about my Canadian coins, but the other day I went to the post office to buy stamps and got a 1943 US steel penny in my change. Didn't realize it until I got home. At first I thought it was a dime.

I found a 1914 American dime in a box of coins. It's one of the coins that has inspired me to start coin collecting.

My father used to put all the interesting coins he found in a box as well, so I have some pretty old coins in there that I am currently cataloging, such as a large cent from 1918 IIRC and a deux francs French coin from 1923. I don't know if these count though, as I technically found them in a box of change but they were already places there by someone else!

About a year ago I was given a 1956 quarter back as change after buying a coffee at a truck stop. Nice chunk of silver.

I'm not sure if I posted this before,so bear with me.It's not the oldest find in circulation.Maybe it should be under "Unusual finds in circulation/change".2 years ago while heading to algonquin for a 10 day camping trip,we stopped off at Peterborough for a quick snack at a Harveys hamburger place.I received in change two(2)1949 silver quarters.I was very surprised.Since then I've always wondered "what else was in that till?"

I just received in change a beat up 1850 Liberty Seated dime. I got it at a gas station in Angier, NC when I picked up my mail.

It is older than the 1854 or 1876 dimes that I got when I was a kid but that was 50 years ago. Never thought I would see another Seated Liberty in change.

People just never look at their pocket change.

1938 & 1941 Newfoundland 1 cent coins.
Found them when I was in costal Labrador community of 400 people in the 1970s. The coins just appeared in my pocket change. There was a lot of older coins there because there wasn't either bank and the money kept circulating among the people and the 5 small businesses in the community.
