My brother and I registered and he got an e-mail from APMEX. Per the e-mail there are only 3100 sets they have left. Should he take it (less than $1k Shipped)? Also it states the coins will ship sometime in May. It has the pcgs FS slab. Going back and reading this is a good thing (pcgs FS BU slab) or should he take the un slabbed coins? Thanks

Why did several of these dealers have to be so shady and transparent on how they handled the sales? Lottery? So they could hide some of the backdoor deals on some of these sets and choose who they actually contacted? Prudential making you practically tell them everything except your grades in elementary school to order? Ridiculous. How hard is it to post that they are now available and sell them like they do the other 99.99% of their products.
@Ceylon62. Of course your brother should take them, that's currently under spot price

Dang, I got all the way set up then I got to the screen about the lottery email. I was just trying to figure out how to pay for it as I am silver rich and cash poor. I guess that will not be a problem now.

I thought that was some sort of trick pricing....lol He placed the order.
On the grades -- It says that it will either be PCGS choice Bu or Better. How would this be on numerical scale? Choice BU Vs Better --
Also, Has anyone got anything / know of anyone getting a grade other than PCGS choice Bu from any other authorized sellers on the pre slabbed coins?
Thanks

Unc - 60 BU - 61-62 Choice - 63-64 Gem - 65-66 Superb - 67-68 Almost perfect - 69 Perfect - 70 anything from 65 up should be considered museum quality unless the coin is incredibly rare.
There is nothing official to these match-ups, just a rough estimate of "old style" grading versus MS grades.

So, IOW, the coins should be PR63 or better, which isn't really saying much, since anything short of a mishandled proof should be at least 63 anyway. The slabbing without numeric grades is just a gimmick. The TPG knows they're genuine and that 999/1000 of them are "choice" or better, so they charge $3 per to slab them into a piece of plastic with a generic grade. Then if the collector wants a "real" grade, pull out $30-50 per coin to see if you get a dm-70 or whatever.

I had an A-Mark set slabbed PCGS Choice BU with one piece having a huge scuff across Washington's hair. I wondered if it would make MS63 by the grading standards used on these and sent it in with the set to find out. PCGS was gracious enough to switch that coin out and sent me back one slabbed MS68PL.

On bullion coins it happens. If you submit 100 ASE for grading there's no guarantee you'll get the same 100 back. At least this is what I've been told and my recent submission confirmed it.
