@Foxwoods

Yes, the math was skewed to pertain to my personal situation in having a mis-graded MS70 with gouging in the letters on the OBV. Another CCF member told me PCGS has a "guarantee" to buy back their mistakes. I was excited at first, but after seeing the actual outcome, the facts are that for a non member, trying to just get one mistake taken care of, the guarantee is worthless and actually can make a profit for PCGS.

I was not talking about every case and people who submit hundreds of coins.

And now I can see where my same situation may actually apply to other people who are not PCGS members, do not desire/have coins to submit on a regular basis, and buy an accidentally misgraded PCGS coin. The guarantee seems suited to help members with higher echelon membership.

I suggest it would be better if the company simply had a policy of, "if we goofed, we make it right at no cost to you." This is what I personally consider good, honest, business sense.

OldNo7 sorry to hear, Would you mind posting the first 4-5 numbers of your order # Or around what time your ordered, This way it'll help people still waiting.
Gillger24, Scarp9603,& Brakeman I'm routing for yas!Think your doing great if you haven't received any bad news yet. Heck Scarp your in the fast lane now.
Did all you 3 order 1 set. I wonder if they would give only 1 set to someone who has 5 ordered when close to the finish. Or even skip someone with an order of 5 and give it to the next 5 people with 1 order,
Rest in Peace

Well, I sold one of my sets on ebay. The buyer received it today. Despite my packaging, UPS managed to damage it. The display box is broken, 1 coin loose, out of it's capsule and scratched. Buyer says the last three packages UPS has delivered to him have been damaged. I think his driver must not like him. So much for recouping some of the cost of my sets.

It is interesting to see the renewed interest in the 20th anniversary sets, looking at prices on ebay they seem to be selling for a bit more than usual, must be the reverse proofs..

Jgfindring "So much for recouping some of the costs of my sets" Are you planing on giving the buyer a refund, due to damaged shipping? Seems to me his problem lies with UPS. Theirs no way to tell if the buyer is switching out his damaged goods and keeping your items. Its one of the oldest tricks in the book. An alarm went off when he said " last three packages have been damaged" I don't know the exact word for it, but its when someone elaborates, or gives more information then needed. To support their story or reasoning. Its comments like these that the law looks for. (Law meaning Cops, Feds..Ect... . I wouldn't give a refund. If you don't have any plans on refunding his money sorry to jump ahead, just would hate to see any family members here get taken advantage of with the old bait and switch. Heck the buyer could be buying damaged coins & boxes then , ordering fresh sets switching out the good for the bad and blaming it on UPS. Or more then likely its his own set that was damaged on Del and once again, hes just swapping out. So he has a nice fresh box and coin. Did you sell it as a sealed set or opened set.

Order number was 38396xxxx. Status had been "in process" until yesterday and then when I checked it said canceled. I called the mint and their response was that it was sold out. I know that I had a late order time but I could not order until after work.

Amassey I totally agree with you...probably a scammer.. BUT ...if the buyer files a SNAD claim (significantly not as described..damaged) he will win the case. This is why I HATE selling raw coin sets or sealed box coins. They are perfect breeding ground for some of the scum out there. I would much rather deal with graded coins and not worry about this crap from similar buyers.

Did you sell a "sealed" box? (not your fault)

Isn't this what INSURANCE is for?

Please tell us that you insured it!

Wait a minute, UPS does not insure "coins". This is why I send numismatic items REGISTERED (if over a certain amount, otherwise regular insured, delivery confirmation) USPS.

I received the following message from the mint;

Order #: 3839xxxx - 1
Sold To : Me
Ship To : Me
Item: A25 Qty: 1 Exp Ship: 11/28/11
25TH ANNIVERSARY AE 5 COIN SILVER SET

Does this mean I still have a shot at getting a set?

On another note, I always use the USPS to ship coins. Why would anyone use UPS when have a track record of damaged shipments and are way more expensive and don't insure coins? Makes no sense to me
The USPS has always shipped my products fast, securely, and without damages, for a whole lot less than ANY private shipper. I have shipped a lot of merchandise in the past and the ONLY time I use anyone other than the USPS is when the item is too big, then I use Fed-EX freight.

I also couldn't figure out why it was send UPS but that's done. I'm not a big UPS fan.

Any insurance claim for "collectables" (which would cover loss or damage to the PACKAGE) would have to be noted on delivery by the buyer. They do not insure the contents against damage unless the box is compromised. If the exterior box is damaged it should have been refused or damaged documented with the carrier (by the buyer) BUT if it's a scammer then that ain't gonna happen...defeats the whole purpose.

I would be a poorer man if all the coins I sold were shipped "Insured Registered". Depending on the value of the item, First Class insured can save you a lot of cash and has the same insurance claim procedure as Registered. The insurance costs a bit more but the postage fee is much less than Registered (and MUCH faster). (Priority insured has to be used over 13 ounces)
