Also just an afterthought... people are selling just the 2012 RP on ebay...So if they're breaking up these sets doesn't that potentially boost future value as the true number of complete sets will decline?

There were only 2 unique coins in the set (i believe maybe it was just the rp though) so really anything ungraded without the label is potentially already different than the true set was. Personally I dont care if the other coins came in the set or mpt since it is the same coin so to me its easy to build a set once the unique coins are had. Others may feel differently but I dont see any added value in the complete set as opposed to the unbroken up one especially raw. It would actually probably be cheaper to buy the unique coins then just get "normal" versions of the others and make your set

Some are saying that there is a 3rd unique coin within the 2011 set. It has certain die markers (hopefully the correct terminology). This is going to take a while from a time standpoint for folks to figure out the varieties. There was some discussion about this on other forums when they were first discovered / reported. One of the Numismatic News sites reported about this as well...not sure which one. I could be wrong...but I think it's was the no mint mark unc bullion coin.

basebal21: He was talking about the 2012 set not the 2011 and Ceylon62: there were only 2 unique coins in the 2011 set. No accepted definitive markers were found to distinguish the set's bullion ASE from other bullion not from the set. A lot of the "raw" sets for sale are made up of key coin rejects and 3 regular issue coins put in OMP. This wouldn't work if anyone could distinguish the coins from each other.

For those who (like me) just can't wait, here is the first image of the coins in the set. OK, OK, I mocked this up from the coins in the 2011 set and the mint mark from the 2012 proof, carefully reversed for the RP. Anyway, I thought some might like to get a glimpse. Here is what the last S proof looked like, 20 years ago ... maybe we could get a 2012 reverse of 1992 error ...

Beautiful! I can't wait to see some actual photos in a few weeks. I wont have mine in hand until October or November unfortunately.

The last thing the mint said was that they expected fulfillment to go from July 27th through mid-October, suggesting that they expected to be done shipping around Columbus Day. While I doubt that the mint will change the expected shipping date to something other than October 31, it does look like they think they will actually be finished shipping all orders before then. They don't treat the expected shipping date in the same way that many other companies do. To the mint, anything other than "in stock and reserved" as an item status means "not now" and dates given only suggest relative order, not actual calendar dates.

I dunno why I automatically thought 2011. For 2012 I personally dont care if both my coins came from the same box as long as I have both, others may feel different

Talk yes they are. There could be a difference in it but doesn't sound like it so far. Very underhanded and shady by the mint to know this was going to be offered all along and not say anything until the set ordering period had closed

What a shame though

I dont like it at all. They knew they were going to make this set (which makes little to no sense on it own) and kept it hidden. It not really makes the RP the only thing that made the set attractive and watch now theyll release that in something else later for the extra slap in the face.
I dunno if the FS/ER would mean anything more to anyone who likes them than it already does because of this. The ONLY bright spot is hopefully not many of the new sets being released will be sent in for grading. I almost wonder if theyre just going to use as many returned coins as they can for this set instead of melting them
