what do you guys think, is this a clip or cut after it left the mint?
The edge does appear pretty rough.

Sorry the pictures aren't that great but it's the best I can do right now.

I think it was cut off. The L in LIBERTY is struck way too strong for a clip.

hmm...the clipped edge looks a bit sharp, but I'd like to see the edge opposite the clip before I come to any conclusion.

I'd say cut off. I think the edge would have distorted a little in the press if it were pre-mint. the cut line is too straight, and the details too strong in the effected area.

Too straight, looks cut. But a complete picture of the coin will help.

It appears to be cut but closer pictures would help. Look for metal flow lines at the site of the clip/cut- that is the best diagnostic to use when dealing with a small clip that might not make the Blakesley Effect noticeable.

I concur. But it's likely not cut, that would bend the coin. It's probably ground down with a wheel grinder.

If it were an 82, I would suggest that someone was checking for zinc.

i think that it should be melted and recast as a clip since its a cut
