Why not put them up for auction with Ponterio and assoc. or this guy: http://www.numismaticauctionsllc.com/? You stand a better chance of getting your money back... Interesting how bullion is suddenly considered worth collecting as a coin...

I just sold my Unopened origial shipping box set to my local coin dealer for $600. The reason I did this is I took the US Mint Survey on Monday. By the questions they were asking it sure seems to me they are gearing up to start selling limited edition Silver Eagles on a much more frequent basis. This will, in my opinion, trivialize the set. There will be more 100,000 set limit sets comming. Its a shame too. They saw the success and are going to capitalize on it. I just saw a way to double my money and did. I think over the next few years, the price will come down.

Quote:But I reiterate, I have no "selling history" on ebay....and have never been a member. If you have to start somewhere, it might as well be with a certified set. You can always offer it for sale here as a PIN or with a starting price you are comfortable with. You have nothing to lose for trying.

Keep in mind, as a Gnu seller, PayEnemy will hold the money until you get +FB for the deal, or up to 45 days.

It is interesting to read other members opinions on how collectors should .. or should not buy coins from the mint. There was nothing wrong Eaglefoot's plan to purchase two sets, with the intention of selling one for profit. IMO - There are many of people that did make a good profit. - It takes luck or experience and a very good product to be able to make a quick profit There are three different sets, that I have purchased, that mint has sold with a limited mintage. The 2006 20th ASE, 2009 Lincoln set and the 25th ASE set. All three of these sets, in the OGP, can be sold at a good profit over what the issue price was. Paying more money to have them slabbed is where the gamble comes in. In my experience you should buy as many of these limited mintage sets as you can, but sell enough extra sets, as soon as you get them, to get your original investment back. Eaglefoot - Sorry to hear, that is sounds like you got into your sets at such a level where there is no .. or not much profit. The lesson learned here should be what can happen when you pay for the slab/label and not the coin. I am sure you can see now, when you got your two sets, there was a good chance you could have sold one set (in OGP) for $600 ... or more... and have no dollars in the other set.

I don't care what these do, I was going to sell/make a little as well, but decided to keep as I never want to sell anything anyways. MY LCS called me to tell me prices were going down, strangely enough he was calling to ask if I would sell him some sets. A deal to anyone that got some, you can't sell these without coming out ahead.

The only thing "wrong" would be assigning blame elsewhere when things do not work; profit is not guaranteed with this plan. It is okay to be upset, but eventually, one has to take their lumps and move on.

Speaking of "plans": My s.o. suggested I should sell three of my OGP sets on ebay for $1800 total ($600 x 3), which would pay back my $1500 issue price investment, give me $300 extra cash and I'd still have two OGP Sets, for free. Problem is, I can't bring myself to do this, because it would make too much sense!

For a list of all the sold ones' prices, just go to ebay and do a "completed auction" listing for "pcgs 25th anniversary MS69 set" Remember whatever price you see that (Fe)eBay and Pay(us)Pal fees will take a 12% chunk. So even the set I saw on there that sold for 800.00 - the seller had to pay 96.00 and only got to keep 704.00. One of the less expensive sets went for 702.00 - the seller only kept 617.76 - yikes!

With the OGP Sets in the high-600's/low 700's range, you'd still net over $600 each even after the 12% hit. Which is still double their issue price.

This was a very interesting thread. And an interesting case of "buyers remorse". I bought one set. Quickly wished that I had bought another to sell to recoup my initial cost and still have one set. But I got over that just as quickly and I am very happy with my set in OGP. I think TPG on modern issues is not worth it (especially paying extra for "first strike"). I am sure some will disagree... I was at a coin show today and a dealer had an OGP set for sale. I asked him how much and he said $750. I have no idea how long he has had it for sale or what he paid for it. But I think I saw 3 sets for sale at the show today, and it was a small show. I think prices have leveled off and will stay here for a while. But they are not likely to go up any time soon.
