Nice coin but I bet it looks better than the pics show. The color looks to be off. Which side is closest to the color of the coin in hand ?

The reverse is the closest, not sure why my photo shows 2 different tones. 52Raymo, if I may ask a favor of one who's replies I respect: would you mind taking a look at my other post in this forum regarding the 1994-p LMC and give your opinion, I would greatly appreciate it.

Agree with F12 cleaned. One way to improve your grading skills is to go to the PCGS photograde site http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#// select you type and narrow down your choices to three by looking at the wear. I have posted the 3 initial choices for the coin and then narrow it down. look at wear on the VG10, your reverse is stronger, look at the overall wear on the obverse compared to the F15, you can see yours has more wear on the headband and rims. this sort of narrows it down to between these two, thus the F12 grade.

forgot to include the pic...this should help you at least get close to correct grade. the rest just comes from grading over and over. look for grading posts on this site but don't look at the comments. try to grade it first yourself, then look to see what others thought. you can also see that grading can be very subjective. some may see an MS coin and others an EF.

Okay, once you describe it I can see it. I am trying to grade the 1994-p LMC I posted in this forum and using the PCGS Photograde I can narrow it down to somewhere between AU-55 and MS-62, but of course I don't have the reverse for the LMC to refer to. Am I getting close or am I way off?

Obverse is "okay" and the reverse has some "yikes" in it. F12 details cleaned as others before have said, but not a harsh cleaning, probably an old buff and polish with a soft cloth to brighten it up. The yikes part I don't like is the digs and scratches on the reverse. Cool to have had a coin that long (42 years) and still have the purchase record. No matter what it's increased in value more than a dollar bill would have or a dollar in a bank!

Yeah it's like an old friend after having it so long. I bought it and an 1857 FEC for another quarter (still have it too)because an older kid in my neighborhood needed money to go to the movies with his friends and had none.

You'll have to post that 1857 someday.

mintmark to far right - rarest mintmark position for the 1908-S. It doesn't command a premium (yet!), but it is interesting to note.
