Obverse might be close to a VF, but yeah, its a pretty weak reverse that might keep this an F.

Not to be a curmudgeon but I would vote VF details
looks like an old, old cleaning caused some of that carbon spotting on the reverse, no? Also a few marks on that right obverse mirror and across the relief would keep it from a problem free designation in all likelihood.
Looks like an easy to spot F-102 with the date measurement, small "CC" and die cracks on the right reverse side up top into the relief and within the right leafs.

The original LCS 2x2 has "F+/VG" and the price sticker was for $17.00. I used to find some good stuff at this particular LCS, owner had a lot of inventory on the floor that hadn't been turned in years, mostly lower grade. But I was a broke college student and could not afford to buy it when I found it most of the time :( I got my 1950-D Jefferson there for $7.00 (consensus on Modern seems to be MS65FS) and also a 1909-VDB Wheat cent in problem free VF30 for $3.00, both of which I still have. My best find there was an attributed (by Breen number, no less) 1883/2 Shield nickel, for $23.00. Coin is a solid VG+. The modern designation is FS-302. I'd go with F-12 overall and I don't see a significant cleaning problem, at least nothing that would warrant a "details" grade. LIBERTY on Seated dimes is often pretty strong even when the rest of the coin shows a lot of wear, as this one does. On Seated halves and dollars you can get VF or EF grades from PCGS and NGC even when LIBERTY shows some weakness in the center. |
