Quote: Have you ever seen anything like this before? Unfortunately this is a more common practice than it should be. Same with cracking out details coins to sell as straight graded. It just isn't for ebay either, happens at shows and in shops as well. Not every dealer does it, but don't assume that it isn't happening just because someone has a shop or a table at a show

The current bid was $7 and if that is what it goes for, OK. Almost FSB is what it should have said. To bad those top bans are close but not complete.

Strange - the coin originally graded straight AU58, but now has an addendum "Viewers, please note: Hairlines present indicate a past cleaning." Essentially downgrading it to Details. A double downgrade - interesting business strategy!

I also flagged this pretty great looking 1923-S from the same seller. Obviously I'm skeptical based on what we know about the 1925-S. 254452723160But does anyone know what the odd "bump" is on the reverse just below "AMERICA"? obverse doesn't indicate anything He has the same note on this one: "Hairlines present indicate a past cleaning"

That's an interesting strategy this seller has. Here's another one he bought about a week ago as an NGC AU details coin: 233427672450 and then cracked out and now has on auction as a Unc FSB with past cleaning: 254452705805 Seems a little risky, I wonder what he does if he doesn't break even.

If he doesn't break even he probably cancels the auction and relists it. ebay is rarely your friend.

Nice sleuthing Zurie on the 17-D! I just found the lost twin to hist 23-S that I had also posted in this thread. His current sale item: 254452723160His purchase: 143465087011 (from Dec 10th) There is a curved scratch just below IGWT and through the lower bust that is readily evident in both listings. Wow, this 'coinsncards' sure has a way with lighting. Looks like he may be a dipper too?

Nice detective work. Easy for crooks to make money. Best defense is buyer education.

Some of the top bidders have a conspicuous amount of bidding activity with the seller. But they could just be followers, and not shills.

Sad, hopefully the buyer gets it, examines it and returns it. But prob not.
