I have viewed this topic five or six times now. After viewing both I would like the first coin more, but then the hair would bug me. It has bugged me less on each subsequent view. I think at this point I can overlook the hair and say the first coin would be my first choice.

I prefer #1. To me, luster is an important factor. While I also like strong strikes, I weigh luster over strike. While you should proceed on what YOU like, I believe "The Market" also weighs luster over strike. Separately, the color in the photos of #2 turns me off.

Lovely choices either way - a very fortunate situation for any collector. I would be proud to own either so let us know which you choose.

Quote: Edited for splgellging Nailed it! In response to a few others, @jbuck, I agree, the more I go back to it, the obverse on #1 is less and less problematic for me, even though it wasn't that problematic to begin with. However, the more I look at #2, the lack of luster for a MS65 is a setback.

@Ty2020b, You already know what I'm going to say. I'll just give an old quote I heard long ago about basketball players. I can't remember who said it, but it went something like this. When asked if he preferred short quick players or tall slow players, the coach chose tall players and explained why: "Quick guys get tired, but tall guys never get short." To paraphrase that, bright luster gets tarnished, but strong strikes never grow weak.

I like the strike on #2 but wish there was some luster on the coin . I don't agree with NGC grade of MS-65 . #1 has the luster but I don't like the obverse . Under tough scrutiny I'll take door #2 .

I had a feeling you'd sway towards strike FC!
I actually just messaged the seller in regards to the luster of #2. The NGC photos are horrendous to say the least, but they do show more luster than the sellers pics. We'll see what they say.

So I ended up going with #1.
While I do look at the strike as a pro on this one, the lack of luster and number of marks were more than I could overlook. At the end of the day, I don't feel this is a technical MS65. At 64 money I'd be a buyer all day. Couldn't pull the trigger at 65 money.
Will post in hand pics when it arrives and add it to my signature links of the buff thread and registry.

I didn't give an opinion earlier, but I definitely would have gone with #1. The difference in strike is not nearly as pronounced as the difference in luster and eye appeal. Looking forward to your pics.

@Ty2020b, The beauty of collecting is the freedom to collect what we want. Choosing the coin that you enjoy is the heart of why we all collect. Enjoy, and never second guess!
