Though it is odd that you say it was in a box of new cents. I'll see what other have to say.

The deep sharply cut rims and foggy etched look are the giveaway here. As noted above, it's a Grease Filled Die Strike! A really nice one, too!
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Now that's a lotta grease. Very cool find.
Someday, perhaps someone could post a photo or two of a grease filled die--a shot of the die itself, not a representative illustration. Always wondered what that looks like.

80% and above Grease Fill are interesting to error collectors. This one is a keeper.

Looks legit to me. I wonder if you could please post the weight @jtc? I'm wondering if it falls into mint specs.

Quote: I wonder if you could please post the weight @jtc? I'm wondering if it falls into mint specs. Not sure if you caught it but the coin is lost.. Quote: it was formally in possession of my local coin shop which I volunteer at, scheduled to be inspected by experts at the next major coin show which the owner will be attending. It has since been lost in the pile/box/crate/bag/cabinets of the shop due to our recent renovation, and is likely never to be found

Weight will be normal. The fault was not the planchet, but the die was filled with grease. How can I tell? Note the devices that are there? Note how they are enlarged? The more grease that fills the die, the wider the devices become. The more grease, the less the devices will be present. Just like your coin. That is how I knew what happened to your coin. I have one like that also, but a Memorial one. bought it as I thought it might be a low pressure strike. But on a low pressure strike there will be no rim on the coin: Note on the lower coin, the rim is not present and the design is partially on the center of the design. Machine Doubling leaves a rim on the coin. That is the difference.
