I'm filling Dansco albums and I just purchased a graded coin. I don't want to take it out of the slab. Can someone that is filling an album send pictures of how they fill the hole in the album where the coin would go?
Thanks

If I bought a slabbed coin to fill a hole, you can be sure I will crack it and put the coin in the hole. Of course, I know that is not for everyone. I will need to dig up the posts, but have seen people use labels with the slab information printed on them which are stuck to a cheap filler item (blank, coin, token, etc.) and placed in the hole.

I have a "virtual 7070" album, which is just a bunch of TIFF files on my hard drive. There is one TIFF file for each virtual page. Each page has a number of coin slots with 7070-like text for the coin description. Coin images are then overlaid on top of each slot on the virtual page. It doesn't look anything like a real 7070 (pictures of both sides of the coin are side-by-side, for example), but it has the same slots.
Perhaps half of my 7070 coins are slabbed and half raw. With a virtual 7070, if doesn't matter.

I your album is of the 'press in' type, OK to break out of the slab.
I am not a fan of slabs, but then again, all of my coins are in 2x2 cardboard / mylar flips. I need to label each coin, and that is the main reason why I don't slab.
If you preference IS for slabs, then keep it slabbed; you have at least indirectly paid the fees for slabbing. If it is the ONLY coin in the series, I understand why you may wish crack it out.
Maybe we can answer you more accurately if you post pictures of the type of album you are using.

You are collecting coins, not albums, right? I am not a big fan of albums or of slabs, in particular. I keep my coins in flips in coin boxes but I don't remove any from slabs. I keep track of my collection with a spreadsheet (as we all should have some method of easy reference to when something was acquired, and what it cost, grade, etc).

I just bought a 1909-S VDB as well and while I have cracked a number of coins to put into albums, this one is going to stay in the slab. I take photos of my albums and have pieced together the pages in an HTML file - you can see my 1909-S VDB in my 7100 link below. I have been a little lazy and only taken photos of the fronts of the wheats - someday I may get around to the reverses as well although it is very hard to keep track of which reverse goes with which obverse as they all appear the same.

Ah, also, with the Lincolns, I use a mint token to fill the hole as well - you can see an example if you look at the 1970-S Small Date slot (I've since filled that slot with an actual SD).

I have no slabs, only Albums and flips. I've purchased coins in slabs in the past but always break them open. I collect coins, not plastic. I once even broke out a 1916D Mercury dime graded in the MS area and put the coin in an Album.

It is not to replace the existing Ike album, I do not like to do upgrades, but it allows me to build the collection for a second time and recapture the fun. I figure the slabs was a fun twist. Not to worry, Carl, if I have to crack a few slabs to fill those final ten holes in my various Dansco albums, I will.
