Hi all

I've introduced myself before but I don't post much, more of a lurker. Read a lot here though, and have learned a lot! I especially want to thank Crazyb0 for his coins for dummies download. It has helped a lot knowing the process of coin making!
I'd like to share a story, if you bear with me! I was born in 64. My parents had already adopted 2 kids, back then, 2 was the limit. Near Christmas, they got a call that they had a baby and they changed the rule, if they wanted a third. No thought needed!! So, they brought me into their home. I was the luckiest kid in the world!! My dad worked at a bank. He loved President Kennedy ( see this is going somewhere) when they came out with the
Kennedy half's, he must have bought roles of them. He decided, to give me one every year on birthday. Even as an infant. When I was 5 or so, I started to understand more. I had two new ones in blue cases that Commerative Kennedy (one does have the different hair die) My dad wasn't really a collector. But every year, Id get a brand new Kennedy. Which Dad and I would put in a book. Just our thing. Every now and then, something cool came into the bank, he'd buy it, give it to me. Morgan's, Peace, So on. He did tell me that after 64 coins we're not full silver ( except) the 40% and to hang on to the oldies...they might be worth something someday..my dad passed away this year (a horrible cancer, which he did not deserve!) But, after 53 years, I had Quite a collection of 64 Kennedy and some other oldies. As we started cleaning through his stuff, I did find 2 more old bank rolls ( he worked at a small town bank back then) he must have planned to live to 100!! But, anyway, it was a touching surprise. Backing up...when my parents traveled, he always had change for me from wherever he went. I loved the world coins!! And he taught me history through a lot of them. I started the same when I traveled. Especially if I got older date coins (war era) in change. He never talked about errors, or that. Or he never really thought about bills (darn)

but he started me on a path. I actually started teaching world history and would use the world money (I brought bills when I traveled!) In lessons. Kids respond to money!! Lol, even if they don't have much value. Sorry, I digressed. After he died, I pulled out my books, the ones we put in together. And this year, took one from a roll I found, for my birthday and added it for myself. It meant something I guess. Anyway. I found this forum and learned about coin roll hunting ( have found silver, Wheaties and other stuff) started looking for errors. It was has been a distraction I guess. I also found some other coins in his stuff, maybe he was stashing away for himself. But I know on my Milestone birthdays, 21, 30, 40, 50, or graduations, he would give me
Peace dollars, or something else like that ( of course with my Kennedy) I took care of him in the end, the last week he asked if he was a good dad. Of course!! I was not the perfect child, He taught me "never spend your life wondering what if" which lead to crazy jobs, traveling on little money, and exploring. Until I had to get a "real job" hence the teaching. I got from him a sense of humor, and a understanding that different was okay. I always brought home strays, or old "junk" I would find. I always knew that sound of a silver coin if I got it in change. Since his passing, I've looked through all the coins I've saved, found whatever. Trying to learn about errors, found coin roll hunting, and rock hunting (another bunch of things I'd pick up off the ground and bring home. I'm trying to save for a metal detector too...would love doing that.
I know this is a long drawn out post, but everyone who has lost someone dear, knows the"year of firsts" sucks, and especially during the holidays. I'm selling on
ebay my old collections of stuff That no longer interest me, (of course none of the coins my dad passed to me!!) I had to quit work to stay home, and just not have gotten back into it.
Anyway, I've learned a lot from this forum about coins I have found, still have a lot to learn. I've bought some junk silver just to use to identify parts of coins. Ready to get rid of some of that to. I want to be honest in my selling though, so you may see me post more questions. But, usually in my search, I find the answers already here. So, that's it, TMI maybe, but I appreciate you reading. My mom is still here, I help her too, and yes, she is as special as my dad, and loves when I drag her to thrift stores or estate sales! She gets the antique thing
So, this post started as just a hello, but lead to me thanking the man that filled me with curiosity and the "do whatever you love" attitude.
Thank you for reading through this!!
