I was a checker at a grocery store in the 70's and 80's I collected a lot of coins and paper money. One of the coins is a ike 1776-1976 looks real but only weights 14.9 grams could it be a fake?

Mountainmarv!

Yes, please post a reverse and edge photo.
I saw a post a while back with fake Ike's and a 1964 Roosevelt dime so they do exist.

First off, welcome.

As you must already realize, the weight you're reporting is tremendously light, way out of line for a genuine Ike. I'd like to see the edge, also, but my first reaction is that it cannot be a anything but a forgery (perhaps made from an aluminum alloy), even though I've not heard of such before.

Here is information about posting pics. You did it once, so you can do it again. I'm looking forward to seeing the other pics.

It is possible that you have a spy coin. I see what appears to be a line along the rim on the reverse where it may have been cut.

If you do a search for 'spy coin' you'll see lots of examples and you'll see that they come apart and are hollow inside.

@MM, can it be opened? If so, that would be way cool!
