As much as I like the computer, I hate them even more. But the crash was my fault I guess, I held on to my Vista as long as I could. But once everybody stopped supporting the Vista, strange things happened, luckily, I didn't lose anything. Upgrading to windows 10 came with it's challenges also, it doesn't support my old antique printer, it doesn't have an XD card slot to download pictures from my camera, and it doesn't support the software for my weather station. So now instead of purchasing coins, I am purchasing new computer stuff. Oh well, life happens.

If you were still able to run Vista efficiently in 2018 you are a computer wizard.

You definitely got your money's worth out of it!

"Computer geek" here.

Wow, you really used that Vista for a while! You can find SD card to USB adapters for low prices...as for printer support, well, depends on the printer model.

So YOU were the one that used Vista. I always wondered who it was.

I use(d) Vista. Its still running on my old laptop. When Win 10 first came out I waited a little while, but when they had a holiday sale, I took the plunge and bought a Win 10 machine.

That's partly why I don't use a "computer" now. I got a printer with wireless capability and there was no hurdle to be able to print stuff from my phone. On the other hand, setup is needed for the MacBook Pro, and has not happened.

What's the point? Find the most efficient, expedient method.

I ordered a card reader to USB the other day, along with a printer, both should be here next week. Looks like only 2 cameras use the XD card and I have one of them.

I currently am using a 10 year old 2009 iMac desktop I got for less than 200.00. It may be surprising and go against modern trends, but there is nothing I cannot do with this system in the modern internet. In fact it seldom enters my mind I am not using a new machine.

I have an extensive background in computer hardware/software/systems/repair having repaired/built/hacked (in the moral sense of the word!)/designed small project circuits/replaced/modified computers from the old 8-bit days thorough more modern platforms. This includes Apple, Windows, and Commodore systems. I have taught classes on programming (old school - actually designing programs), etc. since the 80s on multiple platforms. So I think I would not write fit the description of computer illiterate.

Why do I use such an old machine? B/c it still keeps up with modern computing, cost so little to replace, and a biggie for me is that the the word processor I prefer (wrote a book with it) will not run on newer Mac models. Plus the newer version of the word processor was dumbed down and stripped of its power.

I have had computer illiterate friends who I have encouraged to do the same instead of paying for a new system when their old one breaks down. The switch to Mac also meant I was not being called by them all the time to fix their Windows machines for them. So the switch was a win win situation.

The switch is easy, inexpensive, requires practically no maintenance, legitimate virus/malware problems are something I have yet to encounter despite being online all the time, and despite the glamour of not having the latest system (which I could if I wanted it), I have yet to find something I need to do that I cannot accomplish easily. The main difference will be in making a switch you are coming form a Windows environment which requires people to memorize multiple (menus and submenus)steps to get something done and going to a system based more on an intuitive approach. Some people don't like that.

Unless you are a person who has a legitimate need to have the newest possible hardware/software, you can put more money into your coin collection by opting to use these older systems (eBay!). The way they work on the modern internet likely will make you not even notice your machine is 10 years old.
