Is it just me, or do the new coins in circulation appear to be of a lesser quality than previous designs? For example (in my opinion), the new portrait of Thomas Jefferson looks more like the "Mummy" than Thomas Jefferson. Also, many State Quarter reverses look like they have been created on an etch-a-sketch. What ever happened to the classic designs? Which is your least favorite coin design?

Off the top of my head, the SBA comes to mind.

I agree that the new Jefferson nickels just don't look quite right, but as for a least favorite? I never really thought about it so I can't answer that. I more dislike composition changes. When you have a set that is all silver and then suddenly it changes to another composition in newer years. Just looks terrible. Economically sound, but visually yuck.

I don't like the obverse of the sacs... For that matter I don't really like any of the new gold colored coins... don't know if it's the design so much as the color. (The edge lettering is neat though) I don't like the reverse of the Washington's (the eagle).

Folks made disparaging comments about the "Barber" series of coins between 1891 and 1916. Not many pristine examples were saved because of this dislike. Guess how popular BU examples of these coins are today?

....... Quote: I more dislike composition changes. Yeah....don't we wish they'd come out with a "circulating silver coin" again sometime ?.......(probably would never actually circulate though, because EVERYONE would save em'.)... Seated, of course, makes a very lucid point too about "design changes"......good point !

Pretty much all the new Presidential dollars. There's a reason why very few coins have figures with 3/4 portraits. For all our modern methods, the net result is a Washington dollar that's trumped by any coin of his day.

I am the sentimental optimist that can find beauty in anything, so I do not have a least favourite. However, ask me this question again after certain Presidential dollars come out!

The Presidential dollar coins are the absolute ugliest coin I've ever seen come out of any country. If the Mint had put some effort into it, instead of just trying to create another series on which to make money they might have been nice. But no, they are just slapping any old manure out there for people to snap up. I am very disappointed, too. I for one would love to see the dollar go to a coin instead of paper. This presidential debacle will likely have a negative effect on US citizens wanting the coins.

Quote: Least favorite for me: Standing Lib quarters Seriously? That's the first time I've ever heard of someone who actually dislikes the standing liberty design. The others, I can understand.

yea the standing liberty ¼ dollar is generally regarded as the nicest coin ever... never seen one in anything better then a G-4 though. I personally like the Mercury dime and the 2½ gold piece

my least favorite has always been the Lincoln Cent, I have no idea why but I don't even like having them in my pocket from change and I usually drop every Lincoln Cent I get into the give/take thing at the stores or just tell them to keep the change is everything is cents Quote: never seen one in anything better then a G-4 though I think both of mine in my 7070 album were MS-63 graded by NGC. If you are referring to from circulation I have never gotten one out of circulation myself
