Just got back from my yearly coin show. I did pick up a few smaller items (including some error notes and a well-worn "Morgan Back" silver certificate that I'll post in the currency forum once I get them scanned), but I decided this year to blow most of my budget on one or two "special" coins. I was hoping to find a mint state 1916-S Walking Liberty half dollar, but there were none to be found. Fortunately, however, I was able to find one really nice example of my second choice -- a mint state 1909-S Indian Head cent.

I was really hoping to find an MS64 example, since the price guides put that at around $3000 (whereas an MS65 example lists for over $5000), so I was very pleasantly surprised to find an MS65 example for only $3550 (bargained down a from $3800). And, boy is she a beaut!

Maybe next year I'll find the 1916-S Walker of my dreams, but for now I'm very, very happy with this wonderful coin.

WOWZER! What a beautiful IHC!

Your pictures really show the true beauty, red, and luster. The trueview....well...could use some work. :)

Great buy. As this easily points out, it is still a buyers market!!

Yes, that's the official trueview for this coin from the PCGS website. Just an extra bonus I discovered after I got the coin home and looked it up.

Thanks to everybody for the nice comments. And, yes, the seller did say that prices have come down recently and that now is a really good time to be buying Indian Head cents. She told me that she paid $3400 for the coin herself recently.
