Going through my bag of 1966 cents tonight I found another error coin. It looked like a simple struck through capped die at first, but when I looked at it closer, well, I got a bit confused. Of note, this was in an original OBW roll of 1966 coins, not loose, so it is definitely 1966. The reverse is fine, as one would expect, but the obverse shows an underlying mushy regular-sized Lincoln and even the original date is partially visible in the correct spot (the 1, 9 and part of the first 6 are visible in the right light). But then there is the huge Lincoln over top of it all with another RTY and 19 heading off the coin rim (everything is in relief, not incuse). The overlying bit isn't reversed, so can't be brockage, right? Anyway, I need help from the error experts to tell me what happened here as I'm not getting it. Coin is normal weight at 3.07g and has a diameter of 19.05mm. Edited by tropicalbats 08/08/2019 10:31 am

Okay, so after reading my assignment, I am thinking this is a coin struck with a capped die where the cap struck an intruding coin creating a brockage on the die cap which created a counterbrockage on the coin of a giant Lincoln. Still a bit confused but I can see how that could happen.

Excellent find and great LINK E&V. That TY is a tad large also.

Beautiful error. I personally don't think asking $300.00 for an error of that caliber is asking to much. It is a rare find and hard to come by.

Thanks everyone! And I changed the title to more accurately reflect the coin for future searches to find it.

That is amazing! I remember years ago somebody posted one similar, but I can't find it.
