Quote: Score anything in the Heritage Auction? No winning bids for me. The Silver Rider has established itself as the king of crown-sized silver coins. Prices will only go higher in the long run. I was able to score two examples at the FUN show, a nice Zeeland AU58 which is currently being re-holded by NGC and an exquisite Utrecht 1/2 Ducaton, graded MS63 by PCGS.

Confirms my impression that there might still be "value" in the half ducatons (even though they are only half the face value, they are three quarters the size). Don;t worry guys, I'm not gonna compete... purely professional curiosity

What is your objective collecting Ducatons? Just for fun, or do you see it as an investment?

Do you also collect half-ducatons?

Do you think that half-ducatons are less desirable than ducatons?

No, but I won't claim to know for sure. The half is still a pretty large coin, containing just a hair less than half an oz of silver. Prices are, ballpark, about half of what one might pay for a full sized coin with same grade & similar levels of rarity and eye appeal. I have not done a combined pop for half ducatons, but I would imagine they are rarer. Very similar situation with 18th century gold riders, the 7 Gulden examples are much more scarce than the 14 Gulden coins.

That's interesting. Looking at the market now, one would be better off having bought full-sized Ducatons.

I didn't even see that one. Went for a low price IMHO.
