You can read the story here at the "Coin Collectors Blog" It's a fake NGC Slab, certificate and coin. This was not the only coin offered in the lot, the other counterfeit coins offered by the seller were a 1793 AMERICA Chain cent, NGC VF20; an 1800 Draped Bust dollar, NGC AU58; and an 1871-CC Seated Liberty dollar, NGC AU55. No junk here.

The con man has not been arrested - yet. Authorities are on the case.

Oh, joy! At least the person is known and on the police 'radar screen'. I suspect that his/her days of doing this may be numbered.

The same article, verbatim, was posted yesterday at https://www.coinnews.net/2020/07/14...stella-coin/ -- neither has a personal byline, but it's interesting that articles about counterfeits appear without credit and the "by"s don't match. I hope/assume it's just a press release from ACTF.

It's a good thing Stellas are out of my price range. It's hard enough to be sure something I can afford is genuine. I'll settle for my 1881 Carr overstrike.

Let's hope so. In the weird times we are living justice does not seem to be too popular.

Not a good quality fake. That tells you the slab is fake as well, and the font on the label is wrong.

I believe that it is, Scott is the owner of the blog, not the writer on this piece, the byline for this story just says ACTF as well. I'm assuming though. Just wanted to give his blog a shout out as I like it myself. Blog here: http://coinsblog.ws/

EDIT: Not to worry on Bobby's editing to the ACTF page, since the blog was mentioned, and is now no longer linked, I just wanted to put in the link, as I read Scott's blog and find it well written and nicely done. Shout out to him for doing it. It's free, and not an advertising driven site. He is a contributor to the Red Book, and a member of many groups I am, ANA, NBS, etc. I don't know Scott just enjoy his blog is all.

It's not labeled a press release or I would've posted the entire article here, that's why I changed the link to the original source.

Surprised they went after a $4 Stella with so few known and well as extensive pedigree on most.
