You can read the story here at the "Coin Collectors Blog" It's a fake NGC Slab, certificate and coin. This was not the only coin offered in the lot, the other counterfeit coins offered by the seller were a 1793 AMERICA Chain cent, NGC VF20; an 1800 Draped Bust dollar, NGC AU58; and an 1871-CC Seated Liberty dollar, NGC AU55. Oh, joy! At least the person is known and on the police 'radar screen'. I suspect that his/her days of doing this may be numbered.

The same article, verbatim, was posted yesterday at https://www.coinnews.net/2020/07/14...stella-coin/ -- neither has a personal byline, but it's interesting that articles about counterfeits appear without credit and the "by"s don't match. I hope/assume it's just a press release from ACTF. It's a good thing Stellas are out of my price range. It's hard enough to be sure something I can afford is genuine. I'll settle for my 1881 Carr overstrike. |

Not a good quality fake. That tells you the slab is fake as well, and the font on the label is wrong.
