VF30 rev, wheat straw and lines show some wear but still quite nice. EF40 obv, but only marginally EF40. I prefer to see a little more ear definition on the strong EF grade.

Nice '11-S Jim! Although the reverse a little beat up and weaker than the obverse, I'd still go EF40.

VF-35, a couple dings away from EF-40 IMO.

Last night I was about to post my grade...and I'm sure you were sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for my opinion.  But BadThad already posted his grade. My guess when seeing the coin would have been EF40. ( edited to fix my confusing comment ) Edited by steve199

I was going to say XF, but I would agree with VF35 after seeing the dings.

It has the look of an XF, but would probably grade VF-30 to 35 due to the reverse. Still, it is a very nice coin and I would be proud to have it in my collection. :-)

The lack of ear detail is a common characteristic of some of the earlier cents, and has to do more with how it was struck, not necessarily actual wear. The strong cheek and jaw detail on this particular coin screams XF, no question about it IMHO. However I agree with the others that the reverse looks more like a VF30. I suppose it could still pass as an XF all the way around though. |
