I was looking at an auction of a 1914-D Lincoln Cent and thought that it may be counterfeit. My first thought was why is this coin raw? Your thoughts?

I don't know if it's counterfeit but can pretty much guarantee it has been cleaned.

Unslabbed rare coins are unslabbed for a reason! Cleaning, repairs, added mintmarks, damage, just to name a few. Good chance this coin has already been submitted a few times over the years.

Maybe a 1914P with an added MM?

Looks pretty darn good if it is a counterfeit, I say genuine, but cleaned.

Don't quote me, but I believe there were 6 obverse dies? Looks close to this one here, with the lower portion of the mintmark slightly weaker.

Agree 6 obverse dies, agree this appears genuine, but I'd still like to see a full obverse shot and a sharper close-up.

There where 6 obverse dies, but I find it hard to believe that more than one MM punch was used. The font of the MM looks wrong to me.
