Wondering if anybody can help shed some light on this penny for me. Any and all input is appreciated. Is it an error? I just didnt expect to see that color under what looks like to be copper plating. I'm just still too green within this hobby to know. Ive researched it extensively only to arrive at vague and uncertian conclusions. Thanks for you time.

Could use a close up,but it is not an error. Could be something as simple as paint that is now wearing off.It did not leave the mint like that.

Maybe someone was trying to make it look like a 1944 steel cent?

Could be solder or something similar. What does this cent weigh?

There is no plating on a1944 cent, it is made of copper.
Something is on your coin that happened after it was struck.
Just a damaged coin now.

For fun, try giving the coin a long soak in 100% acetone. Could be an instructive experiment.

Looks like paint flaking off. It's not under the copper, it's over it. Post mint damage, no value over the 3 CENTS wholesale value.
ça va bien aller
