The 1859 W9/8 cent in PCGS 65RB went for $28,000 CAD. There are only three at that grade. Two other people are smiling.
How about a 1911 cent in 66 Red for $4,600 CAD?
Seriously, the prices were off the charts.

I would say the MS small cents were not notably high. Some like the 1935 and 1936 did less well that they would have north of the border. The only really high one was the 1925.
The small cent specimen prices looked high on the surface but I don't play there so I don't really have a firm view. I think he had some pretty special specimen stuff. 4 solo finest and 3 tied for finest with one other.
My general sense was that his large cents were interesting but not not fantastic while he did have a some fantastic small cents.

Yeah it was exciting ! In general, very strong prices for very good looking coins! , the cook 1920 specimen cent performed nicely compared to its previous sale in august 2019 ! Now it will be interesting to see where those certificates ends up ... The price realised for the 1931 Sp-66RD is a new record for a small cent outside of the 1936 dot, right ?

Stewart bought most, probably 12 of the 17 George V dates, of those circulated small cents about 20 years ago in a Mike Walsh auction. I was in the room. The collection came out of Winnipeg as I recall and was very nice.
I was also at the Cook auction when he bought the 1920 specimen for $9,900 USD. Went for $17K USD tonight.

My conclusion is that there are multiple new bidders in the high end large cent market, but not necessarily the small cent market.

$40,000 USD, $54,000 CAD, might be the record for any Canadian small cent outside the 1936-dot.
If you disregard the 1859 brass cents, which are errors, I think the $28K CAD for the W9/8 probably is the record for a business strike large cent.

Yeah, I have one and the other is in the Lantern Collection. I do not think that price level is sustainable, but who knows? Part of it may be that none of the three had been on the market recently. I bought mine in 2009. I think Lantern has had his for a few years also.

Same, 7 coins ! what a collection, what a beautifull legacy! I was the third bidder for the 1953 nsf sp-67, it seems the price moved quite a lot since 2019 ! On the other hand, I'm stunned to get so many top pop coins for very cheap ! I didn't expected to see the bid that I put on the very first day, did hold untill the end haha! https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...y-CollectionThose coins will always be special to me, Blay was truly a talented, passionated numismatist who knew how to recognise quality and it shows!

I agree. I bought the Heritage sp67 1953 in 2019. The one tonight went for three times what I paid in 2019.

Prices seemed pretty wild. I still wonder how well some of the Landon coins kept their value. I've picked up a few since the sale, but seemed to be lower prices than the auction night. I wonder if the same will be true for this auction.
I liked the 1959pl and 1967, but forgot to come back and bid. The 1961pl, 1955 NSF seemed to do well.

Some very cool material.. I'm happy with how I made out in the sale. Congrats to all those who got what they were looking for, and to the many who were shocked by hammer prices and couldn't score what they wanted: better luck next time!
I wonder if we'll see more Canadian on GC now... nearly no consignment fees, and a low buyer's premium. I love Heritage, I'm sure they're pretty disappointed that this collection didn't go to them.
Congrats to GC..they had a very successful sale and proved themselves to the Canadian market.

I bid on many and got clobbered on all but one: the 1948 A to large denticles in 65RED. Upgrade from my 63red.

I picked up a couple. I am going to print off the auction pages and send them with the coins back to PCGS, I would very much like the "Stewart Blay" pedigree on my coins.

I totally missed this auction and hadn't heard of GC until reading this thread last evening. Anyone know if if they've sold other Canadian material prior to last week's auction?
