This was in a flip when I bought it. I noticed what appeared to be a small clip so I grabbed it. Do you think this is a clip or a defective planchet? Or maybe just damage.

I'm thinking it's a small clip. Nice pickup!

I see a hint of Blakesley effect on both sides.

Isn't there a smidge of weakness to the rim between 3 and 4 o'clock on the reverse?

Isn't there also a smidge of weakness to the rim between 2 and 3 o'clock on the obverse?

Yes great point--it was subtle enough that I didn't notice it until you brought my attention to it.

I'm going to go with a defective planchet/ragged clip. A clip, minor enough to allow the edge to fill in as well as this example shows should not have lost the amount of design detail and fullness of the field near the anomaly. If you weight the coin it may tell how much coin metal is actually missing .

Also appears to be struck through something on the reverse.

At 6.35 the planchet was heavy to start with. Not much to glean from the weight.

This it is an defective planchet. The good close image show the metal structure. Is far to be clip.
For reverse I am not sure,

Even though the weight being within mint tolerance. I was thinking a possible incomplete planchet to start with. Thanks, Doug.
