I'm currently thinking about purchasing a quantity of American Silver Eagles ( ASE). The seller I usually buy from has them available in unadorned tubes of 20, or "Mint Direct" tubes of 20. The sealed Mint Direct tubes cost $20 per tube, or $1 per coin more. My question is, "Is it worth it?" Are purchasers going to care about the mint direct seal when it comes time to sell, or should I just go for the cheaper per unit cost offering? I suspect the latter is the correct answer.
I'm interested to see what others think, but my personal thought is that there is would be no numismatic premium for mint packaging of PMs. If your goal is just stacking silver, then you shouldn't seek out packaging that adds to your purchase cost.

So the silver eagles originally come in the mint sealed tubes. So he charges more for a mint sealed tube he has to do nothing with or he charges 20$ less for taking them out of the mint tubes and putting them in a generic tube? Hmmm.....makes you wonder where is he getting the Eagles from that he puts in generic tubes.
I would not spend extra money for those after mint tube labels, they are just bullion. If you buy the current year the tube should have it's own mint seal on the lid unless it's been opened already, you could ask the seller if they are selling mint sealed tubes or not. Those selling broken seal tubes may be tubes that have been examined to take out/replace the best ones for grading/slabbing. Just for stacking I've bought tubes with broken mint seals a little cheaper, usually prior years.
To avoid fakes I shop the major dealers for prices and their sales like SDBullion. Liberty Coin, Monument Metals, Bullion Exhanges, Hero Bullion, APMEX and others. Sometimes the major dealers have cheaper prices on their ebay or Walmart stores.
Wanting $20 per tube after buying all that silver sounds to me ridiculous and a scam. And I see no way how it would add to the resale value of the silver.
Were it me I'd probably buy from someone else like an established bullion house. One that doesn't try and scam you for $20 per tube. I'm sure you can go on to Amazon and find much cheaper tubes anyway for storage.
I just took delivery of 15 Philharmonics from Monument Metals and they came in what looked like a mint direct tube and they charged me nothing for it.
Its getting to the point I buy all my silver from Monument and all my gold from BullionExchanges.
The only reason a dealer would sell the sealed mint tube for more is for those that are going to pick the best ASE and try to get it graded. ASE are bullion and while there is a small premium for MS70, the cost of getting it graded will eat up the difference. I would buy the cheaper option. Heck I purchase MS69 ASE at the same cost as raw.
ASE are desirable but have a high premium if in a sealed tube from the US Mint then yes 20.00 is ok for the "SEALED TUBE" as if you send into grade in a unsealed or off market tube the grading service may not give you a MS70 for a coin that meets that standard unless in a OGP sealed tube or better if a sealed monster box but the is 500 coins and at 47 each + grading that would be very expensive
Ive been buying ASE's for spot plus maybe $6. Thing is I agree with the video IF I only had $1,000 but in the last 5 mos Ive probably spent 10X that amount and many, many different bullion coins have got attractive and I'm not just in this for the money. Tho I do keep one eye on the markets and premiums. My coins are BU at the least but in reality all look brand new. I do have a fair amount of rounds and while I like them I do prefer coinage, many types of coinage. Besides I have private mints pretty much covered with 1,5, and 10 oz bars as well.
Off hand I have ASE's, Maples, Britiannias "I love Britannias" Kookaburras, Libertads "cant help myself", Krugerrand's, Philharmonics, Athenians, Kangaroos, pretty much everything except the Pandas because I despise the CCP and commies in general, tho I admit its a handsome coin. Lately Ive been concentrating on ASE's because the premiums have come down some. Ive recently ordered and received 30+ with 20 being 2025's.
Now the order before that I ordered $1 K worth of generic Buffalo rounds so its not like I'm only buying Govt. coins but I like a mixed stack. Everyone has their own preferences. I have a buddy who buys rounds $500 worth at a time, puts them in his safe, and never looks at them again and thats fine. Myself I'm always taking mine out and mooning over it. I keep everything in capsules and looking brand news. Weight-wise I depend a lot on 5 and 10 oz'er as well as 1 oz bars. 90% too BTW.
Had I the cash I'd be a serious collector but I dont and other then picking off the odd MSD collectable I feel as a legacy investment after I croak I want resale ease for my family which is why I'm really picking off ASE's as much as possible when I feel the price is right.
And of course the anchor to my stack is gold. But as for silver I'd bet 75% of my stack are rounds, ASE's, Maples, and Britannias. All sound choices and very liquid.
