Half of the coins shown aren't even the coins in the description.

Seems whatever the heck that guarantee is, it's not worth the fancy card it's written on.

Looked into Bidsafe - seems like a bit of a wank IMHO. From what I see, this is how it works:
1. Seller registers (and presumably pays $$$) to be listed as a Verified BidSafe seller which then allows said seller to apply a unique BidSafe Verified Number to the item description. (Note: From what I can surmise, at no point do BidSafe's "Authentication Specialists" handle or view the physical item. They probably don't even look at the listing!)
2. Seller can then sell item with buyers thinking the item has been independently verified as Authentic by Bidsafe.
3. If the item is not authentic, the buyer is covered by Bidsafe (even though they are already covered by ebay who tends to side with the buyer anyway).
A waste of time and money from what I can see.

Apparently BidSafe thinks so.

As David said, it looks like a bit of a wank. Their Web site looks like a typical scammer site - spelling errors, meaningless claims and dodgy procedures etc.

I bought a coin on ebay that came with a Bidsafe certificate- not because of the certificate but because I liked the coin. I am satisfied that the coin was accurately described in the ad. No dramas there.

The certificate is a waste of paper. A kid with a pc and printer could knock up a replica in a few minutes and it would be just as valid. It has a thumb print and hand written number on it. Big deal; could be anyone's thumbprint- there is no signature or name so may as well just put "X" on it!

As the original post shows they have little in the way of credibility and that particular 'certificate of authentication' really has shot whatever credibility they may have had to tiny pieces. If anything, a coin being sold with a Bidsafe certificate might be something better to avoid?

Unfortunately, ebay is fraught with fraud, & it's rampant in the coins & currency section. The way some of this fraud is perpetrated, it is nigh impossible for ebay to police, & gov't agencies let this stuff go on, because of their heavy case loads, most all is too small to investigate & prosecute ...
...for a good example, go to ebay & search: " Lincoln Cent error", looking under 'SOLD ITEMS' ( left-hand column)... then select to view the items by "PRICE + SHIPPING: HIGHEST FIRST" (upper right, above the listings).
...As you scroll through the list of sold items, look for sellers with 0 (zero) sales & 0 (zero) feedback ... & then look at the ridiculous price a common coin sold for ...
...in one recent case, a 1944 Lincoln "With no mint mark Extremely Rare" sold for it's asking price...$5000! ... pretty good for a 1st time seller! ...
...this situation repeats itself quite a lot, not just with pennies, but with nickles, dimes, quarters, all sold by sellers with little or no sales and feedback, selling at ridiculous prices ...
...What we're most likely witnessing here is a small-scale form of money laundering, with something other than the listed item being paid for...
...the sales fly under the wire for DEA, Treasury, FBI, etc. (because of the low dollar amount), & satisfies the IRS, as taxes will be paid on these transactions ...
... fraud in the Coin World, much like the art world ...

Worth the paper it's printed on.

Stick with auctions or ebay and coin community sales, original images a must for me buying or selling even a video of coin as long as coin is clearly visible, as for bidsafe I haven't purchased from them.
