This piece could have had a nice home here with me, but I've bought too much lately and it wasn't going for a too-good-to-pass-up price (though I think someone did get very a solid piece at that level)...

Good looking surfaces, typical slight reflectivity for high grade Guat. pieces. A touch of very light wear. One thing - I believed those lines near the date were not scratches but die cracks - agreed?

The guatemala 1821 8 reales you mentioned long long ago is on my hand.:) Oringally it was from a Honduras coin dealer as a Uncertified coin. And I bought and slabbed it.It is a NGC-MS62,not as perfect as I thought.

nicolashsing : depends, I start by trying to open them from the side cleanly with a big knife, to keep the box "in case" (I know it's useless for authentication once opened, but if a new buyer wants a grading number instead of falling in love with look of the coin itself . at least I have it somewhere).
If it don't work, a hammer on the side can indeed do it - or a vise if you have that on hand :)
And in any case . the idea is not to damage the coin ;)
