I am sending my 1916-D Damaged Mercury dime to ANACS to be graded and authenticated.(you can see the original post here -> https://goccf.com/t/95537 )

I have never filled out a submission form. I was hoping for some help.

I selected the $29.00 tier of service (5 day).
I selected the $20 return service ($101 - $1,000 Declared Value)

I placed the coin in a 2x2 mylar flip and put the flip & the form in a legal business size envelope.
I stuck the envelope in a larger padded envelope and will ship it out using FedEx.

Does this seem correct? Did I miss anything. I'm a little nervous just mailing this coin out.

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like everything is solid... Good luck on the grading, with a story like your other thread... Please post the results of this venture, I'm really interested in seeing if this grades... Either way, it's still the King of Mercury dimes, THE key date... That's always a good start...

I have only sent 2-coins to a TPG'R, Anacs and if I might offer some suggestions, I have found that on the submission form what you write for them to check out, is exactly what they will do, nothing else.

An example, I have a friend who submitted an old coin for authentication , on the form that is what he asked them to do, they did, I would also point out the reverse was a rotated reverse and because the submissiom form did NOT mention that fact, the coin was not labeled anything about the rotated reverse die, my point check your coin over well and write exactly what you would like the grading people to do, either way, best of luck and please keep us in the loop, Mike....

I don't see anywhere on the form that it asks you what you want them to do? I only see an option for which tier to select?

On the right side of the submission form, I placed my requested areas of interest in the "variety" column, and of course added the $5 per extra "Variety Attribution Verification & Errors". I too have just submitted my first batch to ANACS (10 for $100 going on during the month of October), and there have been no issues (as of this date) on my order. I believe that I read that they will contact you if there are questions about your order.

I would recommend the special for you, gather nine more of your better coins and send them in, free return shipping and insurance included (http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/S...ecial.aspx). Provided that you list the max. value of your 16-d is $500. Which seems to be the general consensus of the forum.

Be sure to let us know what happens!

I never understand people who say they are so worried about sending their coins in, and then ship them uninsured. FedEx does NOT provide insurance for coins, including collectible coins. If it gets lost you are out of luck. (Insurance is included in the shipping cost, but if it disappears they will reimburse the insurance fee only because they do not insure coins.)

The company the I work for ships FedEx everyday. We have a great relationship with the driver and the company. We have not EVER had anything lost or damaged from them.
I can't say the same for UPS. We used to deal with them and had about a 30% of lost or damaged product. They took forever to sent someone to inspect the packages and still tried to deny the claim. (Hence the reason that we no longer do business with them)
And lastly, I have NEVER had a good experience with USPS. I have ordered Cell Phones only to receive opened boxes that were taped back up (with no phone inside). I received crushed magazines, opened letters. My mail ALWAYS ends up in the neighbors house. USPS is very frustrating to me.
I feel I made the right decision with FedEx but we will see.
Hey, I didn't pay a dime for this dime, so if it does get lost, I really didn't lose anything. I only lost what could've been.

And it has definite identification characteristics, if it should show up afterwards (not that I am wishing ill will on you).

It definitely does. I've never seen a dime with this style damage. So I guess I have the most unique 1916-D dime in the world.

Well, here's an update. I received a package from ANACS today. Guess what. The packing slip said 1916-D Mercury dime, but there was a 1909-S VDB Cent in the package instead! I called ANACS and they said they would call me back... Nothing yet. I am about ticked right now.

I had a dream that something like this happened, not to you, but to me, I have 13 coins being FEDEXed back from ANACS sometime this week.

I would have made the same move, calling them. Good on ya!

Curious...what kind of condition was the S-VDB in?

I thought the same thing at first. "What is worth more? The 1916-D Heavily Damaged Merc or the VF30 1909-S VDB Cent?" But it doesn't matter. The S-VDB is not mine. I will return it to ANACS because I don't want to screw anyone else because I got screwed. But what if the guy who received my Merc doesn't feel the same way? What happens to me? Very frustrating.

Ok, newest update. I just got off the phone with ANACS. The other package was not delivered yet so the are having FedEx return it to them. They are sending me a call tag for the Penny and will send me my dime as soon as it comes back from FedEx. I should receive it by next week. BTW: They graded my Mercury dime as a Heavily Damaged With VF30 Details.

Whoa, sorry about your ANACS mixup. In my experience an event like this is pretty rare. Certainly, nobody in my local coin club has ever had a similar problem.

I have a 10-coin grading special in process at ANACS myself right now. Hopefully all will go smoothly.

By the way, registered USPS mail is the method recommended by grading services for shipping valuable coins. It is generally recognized at the most secure shipping option, with insurance coverage up to $25000 available.
