I'm fairly certain that it is Machine Doubling, but also very discreet to notice - even under magnification. good eye for details.

I hope the coin isn't actually that color...

Would you take another picture of this coin? Would like a picture of this VDB and a common date from the 40's or 50's.
For some reason, the strike on this coin is VERY nice....well centered, and has STRONG rims. I don't see the tell tale signs of a proof coin here, but, those square rims and sharp details look nice.

coppercoins...the color of the coin is fairly accurately depicted in the pictures I posted. What is wrong with the color? I thought the coin looked nice.

Looks to me like it was guilded!

The 16x shots pick up weird lighting effects but I guarantee you all the coin is not guilder or anything. It ha a nice red over brown color, with a lot of luster, but the coin is uncleaned or otherwise altered...not sure why the little gold like flecks show up in the pics ... It's weird.

I think you're looking for the word "gilded". Although I'm sure the coin is also not a member of a guild. It's not gilded, guilded nor gelded (thankfully on all three counts!)

Stand them on edge, together, to compare the rims. Matte Proof coins have SHARP rims. Your VDB looks like it might have this. There is some die markers to look for as well. Google matte proof identification...and get your loop and digital camera back out.
There is a die scratch to the right of Lincoln's nose. Would need a closer shot of your coin to see.

Here's some pictures of the front of the coin - there do appear to be some die scratches in front of his face...I'm completely unknowledgable when it comes to matte proofs, and the page you provided isn't opening for me...is this possibly a valuable coin? I didn't purchase it as a proof, just as a run of the mill "uncirc" 09 VDB, paid $15 for him about 7 years ago. ? Oh, and the rims are VERY square and full...still trying to get a shot of that.
