The American Silver Eagle is a bullion coin. Therefore, shouldn't all threads concerning the ASE be in the bullion section and not here?

There is ONE "bullion" ASE. The rest are NOT by ANY definition bullion. So that answers that.

One dollar for a can of soda? If you want I can get you an entire case for about four dollars. Wonder what would be said if you tried to use those ASE's for buying soda?

There is a spot for the ASE in my 7070 COIN album, so I think it is generally regarded as a coin.

A bullion coin. It hasn't and never will be minted for circulation at face value.

I consider it a coin if it is legal tender.

By the definition of not intended for circulation then any S mint "coin" in the last 20 years or so, any Kennedy half since the 80's etc. shouldn't be considered coins.

While this is a specialized edition, it has monetary value so is correctly considered a coin.

Some, but not all. The very phrase "bullion coin" implies that these objects are both bullion and coins.

Threads discussing the "bullion" aspect of the ASE - fineness, premium, availability, comparison with other bullion coins, etc - should more appropriately be discussed in the PM section.

Threads discussing the "coin" aspect of the ASE - design, mintages, proofs, slabs, etc - should probably be discussed here.

Either way, the moderators probably won't go out of their way to move threads about ASEs unless the discussion overwhelmingly leans towards one aspect or another.

The same goes for discussing Maple Leafs in the Canadian forums, or Kookaburras in the Australian forums.

I have been working at a coin shop for the past several months, I see ASE's brought
in every once in a while, that have been spent at local mini marts, for face value.

So yes .. they do get spent into circulation.

I'm surprised the local ini mart took and ASE for a $.

I have had more than a few cashiers give me the stink eye when I try to spend $15 in Kennedy halves I have over from box searching and look them over top to bottm. I have less resistance when trying to spend $1 presidential coins.
