joseph New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 11/25/2011 07:28 am just wanted to know if anyone could explain to me about this 1969 Kennedy half dollar that I have which weights 11.3 grams instead of 11.5.i think from 1965-70 the kennedy weight is 11.5.then from 1971.to date the weight ic 11.3?.thanks for who can clear this up.. When I first started hunting for silver I thought I was going to be slick and weigh all my rolls and the ones that weighed more had silver in them! Trust me...that doesn't work...lol.. Look at the color of the coin and compare it to others from the same era, both clad silver and clad coins. You should be able to see the difference in color between the clad silver and clad coins pretty easily. Your 1969 should be a clad silver coin (1965-1970) - not a clad coin (1971-date). Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 11/26/2011 06:51 am You can't tell the difference between 40% and coppernickel clad by weight because the mint tolerances overlap. You would have to use a specific gravity test to tell them apart with absolute certainty. Report this Post to the Staff
