Hello all, I'm trying to help a friend Identify this token he dug up in Beamsville Ontario Canada. I have no idea what country it is from. The beast on the coin looks like a lion but I could be wrong. From the tongue, claws and general appearance of the lion I would say it is of Asian Origin. Any help in identifying it would be greatly appreciated. Here are the pics: I believe this would be the Obverse: Reverse: Again...thank you for any help. Edited by cladhunter13 11/26/2011 01:25 am

Hmm...no ideas? I'm having trouble getting anything to pop with my web searches. Any idea at least what the country of origin may be? Any assistance is appreciated. :)

Ironically the only thing I found on Google was linked back to this page The lion has a resemblance to Scottish designs. It's going to be a privately minted token with no government affiliation. I can't see to find anything even remotely close to this but I'll keep checking.

Thank you for the reply GO. You think possible Scottish. Well that is what I will try next. Asian turned up zip and then after looking again...I was thinking maybe German. Again...no luck. I will try Scottish as well.

If it's not American or Canadian then it will be from some European country that has a lion themed background or coat of arms
More then likely a bar or business token

When doing web search would you use token or coin as search criteria?

I actually have to do every search twice with each word because keep in mind you are searching for something that a possible novice has posted

I havn't a clue what the token is but it is unlikely to be Asian with a 6 on it. Also the number 6 may stand for sixpence so try that in your googling.

Some of my Czechoslovakia coins have a similar lion on the back. The tail different though.

The lion is European-heraldic, rather than Asian. A seven-tailed lion makes me think Dutch, rather than Bohemian. But the "6" to me implies a non-metric currency system - the British sixpence comes to mind. Either way, it's a token of some kind. Perhaps it's a British token.
