Hi everyone, I'm interested in hearing opinions of ICG. How do their service, accuracy, value, slabs, promptness, etc. compare to the other top TPG's? Thanks for any information you can provide! Regards, ~neuron

I believe ICG's grading is accurate. In the value department they don't compare to PCGS or NGC in resale prices. I know you should always buy the coin and not the slab, but if your into resale, you can expect to receive lower prices compared to the other top two grading services. I'm not really sure why this is.One possible reason could be that 90% of HSN's graded coins are ICG graded.Even thou the grading is fair the prices are not. This could be hurting ICG's reputation to some degree.

I also think ICG is badly underrated for its quality since it apparently has top graders working there. Somewhere along the line, it's developed a bad reputation which it possibly does not currently deserve. Nevertheless, one seldom (never?) sees ICG slabs in Heritage and other major auction house auctions.

I think ICG does pretty good on older coins but they stink at grading modern coinage, they will grade coins at the 70 level when they are really like a 68 at PCGS or NGC, you can see ticks in hand with your eye (not like SGS but a tick is a tick and shouldn't grade a 70 with a tick)

Ive never seen an ICG slab labeled Brilliant Uncirculated like I have NGC's. From what I can tell ICG is not listed with the rest of the ABC grading companies,, and most of the time is grouped with PCGS,NGC,Anacs as the 4th TPG in line. Now that just means that they are the 3rd loser but its better than being unranked. Rick

I just wanted to comment on morganfred's post. I've noticed in the last couple weeks that there have been some ICG slabs on heritage, (I've been looking at mostly gold 2 1/2 pieces). I hadn't noticed any ICG until recently though.

Yeah, I saw that as well. I have to believe that there's a little political collusion going on with Heritage - they've brought a couple of large collections to auction having been slabbed en masse by a certain TPG (the Omaha Hoard is an example), and you have to think that people have been wheeling and dealing behind the scenes. As Bryan mentioned, ICG leaves little to be desired with their grading of older stuff, and they deserve better than they get in the marketplace, especially in view of their excellent slabs.

I just seen a shopping network last night with loads of ICG graded coins and it is in my opinion that alot of the top grading companies are in cahouts.
Does anyone know who the owners are of ICG ?
Who is involved with these TV marketings ?
Are all these somehow interactive with one another?
The appearance has begun to appear so!
Seems the more education of whos' who in this market the less room they have to operate !

There is no question that ICG has a sweetheart deal with HSN, while NGC has a sweetheart deal with S@H.

I see HSN has a todays special value on the 2007 Silver Eagle graded ICG MS70 for $80.It comes with 4 free coin gradings from ICG. Thats the first time I have seen them do anything like that. While I don't buy coins from HSN,I'm wondering if this is not a decent offer considering NGC MS70 2007 Silver Eagles are selling right at $200 on ebay.

Watching HSN the man on there repeatedly said the coins that they have graded ! Not that they have had the coins graded. Does this mean they themselves graded the coins, if so it could be that ICG is selling these First Day of Issue coins not to be repeated.
Set of 4 gold coins for over $3500 with a limit of only 1934 or so at these grades of 70 ever and the presale of silver eagles ms 70 of 15000 available for 89 plus shipping each.
Was interesting to of heard this. Coins that they have graded.

I'm pleased to see ICG get a little press, even if it's through HSN. It's gotten a bad rap over the years and needs to get itself pulled up higher in the food chain although I'm not certain plastering MS-70 labels on modern coins is the way to do it. http://www.icgcoin.com/

I agree Fred. Honestly,I trust ICG's grading more than ANACS but ANACS still seems to be one step above ICG when It somes to resale. That might change over time with the upheaval going on within ANACS. The 4 free submissions from ICG has to worth something.I think they are trying to get the recognition they deserve. If a number of people take them up on the free submission offer,I think you will start to see more of all types of coin graded by ICG. I think that's probably what they were aiming at with this offer. With the 14,000+ ICG MS70 Silver Eagles sold lastnight, they gave out roughly 56,000 free coin submissions.

I wonder if the 4 free submissions are really free or that you may to submit them with 4 paid submissions to get the deal?

airdale, they are actually free. They said exactly what the offer was.All your required to pay is the shipping. Also, you received 4 free submissions per Silver Eagle purchase. so if you bought 4 coins you would receive 16 free submissions.I wonder how many dealers took them up on this? Terry
