Based on the little I have seen and the "much" I have read, I give ICG the nod even or above ANACS. ICG still seems to have less favoritism for certain parties--if any at all. Most of what I have seen posted and read says ICG is loose on modern silver and overly tight on modern gold. Using that (right or wrong) I bought ICG graded gold bullion coins that appear as good or better than NGC and PCGS equivalents I have. Couple that with the lower prices you folks mention and I have a few excellent pieces. AND, the slabs are great. I am not up for cracking anything out for fear it would come back lower. However, I have a couple I might try for a crossover, thus raiing the resale.

It's interesting that this topic was started not long ago. I just got off the phone with James Taylor who has now resumed his position as President of ICG. As a result, I think that ICG will be a company to watch. James brought ICG into the top tier before he went to ANACS. Now that he has returned, it should be interesting to see what happens. They have a very good bunch of graders there and I think they could possibly clinch the 3rd TPG position if marketed correctly. There was a time when I feel that ICG was overgrading moderns, but I have seen that with PCGS and NGC also. We're hoping that James will come back on CC sometime in the future to give us some insights into ICG and what to expect. He just started back there, so it won't be a for a while.

That begs two questions: Why did he leave ANACS--money or dissatisfaction with the operation? Why did ICG want a new president since they had some top guys?

Here is a link to the thread about James leaving ANACS: https://goccf.com/t/9054I posted in that thread after I spoke with James on the telephone. He left for personal reasons and on very good terms. He was intending to retire, but was offered his old position at ICG. I do not know the circumstances at ICG that allowed them to offer him this position or what happened to the previous President. I only know that he sounds very happy.

I'm actually more interested in seeing what happens at ANACS now.

When James left ICG, Keith Love took on the position of President along with everything else he was already doing. I'm thinking that Keith was pretty relieved to get back into the shop when James returned.

Speaking of Keith Love, I happened to read the following letter by Keith Love on the ICG website yesterday. It is too lengthy to reproduce here, but it is in response to an apparent oversight or perhaps deliberate slight by the ANA Board of Directors against ICG despite ICG's major contributions to numismatics and the ANA, particularly in education. Yesterday, it was entitled "Love Letter to the ANA", but I note that today the title is "License grading services on merit" (it's still titled Love Letter in the page header). To my knowledge, ICG's grievance with the ANA BOD has not been addressed by the ANA, at least publicly. http://www.icgcoin.com/Default.aspx?tabid=751

Wowser. Are the ANA completely out of touch? Also, quote: ...if XYZ grading service has an inadvertent loophole in their guarantee that does not cover authenticity.....
Did anybody else catch that little zing? One thing I'll say for ICG - a guy over at NGC's board once tried to stump them on their guarantee to slab/authenticate *anything*, and failed until he submitted a wooden nickel, if I recall correctly.

I like ICG just as well as the other three. I think they do a pretty good job at grading. I like the slabs they use also. You can get some good deals on them on ebay sometimes.

The first slabbed coin I ever bought was ICG 2001 ASE. Shortly after purchasing, the little label became dislodged and I ended up breaking the slab open and taking the coin out. Probably will never buy ICG again.
