I just wanted to give everyone the heads up on this seller. The buyer of the coin received it and confirmed with PCGS that it is fake. I am not going to tell you that the seller is dirty, but his "Private" auctions with Chinese sellers certainly looks suspicious. Buyer beware, and if you have a list of bad ebay sellers, you might just update it to be safe. Your choice. http://www.ebay.com/itm/25094482678....m1497.l2649

According to the buyer, the pictured coin was not what he received.

Wow, that's too bad. Did he get his money back? What coin did he receive?

It's sellers like these that give ebay a bad name. I know a plethora of ethical, legitimate, and highly professional sellers on ebay that do nothing less than superb job. It's a shame to see things like this.

most of the Chinese sellers I checked that he has purchased from with private sells do not have any coins listed for sale, most of them have electronics for sale. At least the ones I checked didn't have any coins for sale

I hate it for the buyer that he got a fake coin. OT - people with math skills will catch the double-negative = positive but not in this case

Luckily, he should be protected under Paypal and ebay Buyer Protection programs....this is one good thing about purchasing coins online. If he would have bought from an individual, he would be SOL....but now, at least he can get his money back!

Bryan 1315, while the Chinese link is certainly not conclusive proof of wrongdoing, the fact that the real coin was pictured, and the auction said "the coin pictured is what you will receive", and then he got a counterfeit coin in a counterfeit slab most certainly is. The seller can't even claim ignorance because he used the pic of the real coin.

I was going to say the coin looks pretty good in the auction photos, though for that kind of money I'd want to see it in hand first. The cert # matched PCGS verification site. Did'nt read far enough to see he had sent an entirely different coin. I've seen a couple of the 1889-CC fakes where the holder was really good, and they had used a similar graded fake so the cert even matched up. Be careful out there, if it's too good to be true then it probably is, why would someone sell a coin for half market value when top rare coins will sell easily with a phone call to a market making dealer?

This guy should be in prison. Does ebay not see this, or are they in on it! Enough already!

It's scary how they fake the coins in the holders. How are we to know until after the fact? And all the dealer needs to do is declare ignorance. "oh, I didn't know". It's wrong!
