I'm pretty certain it's legit target toning.

Toning looks nice but the obverse appears to have some wear on the high points, plus a fair amount of scratches. I'd guess this is an AU coin that has been dipped and cleaned and has subsequently acquired that nice reverse tone. I have an 1835 Half Dime in an NTC holder graded XF-45 Cleaned. It has similar but less intense reverse tone and lots of obverse scratches. That coin cost me less than $40. The posted 1833 coin is probably worth more than that but nowhere near the $385 opening bid, IMO.

every coin I have purchased in those NNC holders have had rim bumps that would keep the coin from grading problem free at any of the big three, so I quit purchasing any of them. One was the super DMPL VAM-70 that if not for the rim problems would probably have been the best of the best but I ended up selling it practically for about 10 dollars over melt. That was the final straw for me because that was the 4th or 5th coin I found to have problems hidden by the holder. If the coins didn't have problems then they would have been a good deal but with the problems the holders were hiding I certainly over paid for all of them

Agreed jaobler. That was kind of my point with that " TPG". I also noticed wear on the high points of the obverse. Did you see his BIN price! He's dreamin'

That's too bad Bryan. It's a nice looking coin otherwise.

The 1858 Seated Liberty half dollar graded AU-58 by PCGS in my 7070 album was cracked out of its slab and upon removing it I found it had a number of rim dings which were hidden by the holder. I was quite surprised that PCGS would grade a coin as such without mentioning the rim dings. Ed ANA LM-3175

Beautiful coin, but a bit too rich for my blood I'm afraid. But I'd love to own it.

Bryan you can always return stuff if you suspect the seller scammed you, just don't admit to ebay you removed it from the holder and they'll give you your money back. Did you buy it from centles or whatever?
