I am thinking of getting this one slabbed. Any opinions as to grade of this one? Thanks for any help. Note I posted 2 pics of the OBV and 2 of the REV from the same coin. I was not sure which would be better pics for grading. Its in its original container from the mint with proof finish. As seen in the bottom pic, the hairline @ 3:00 on the following pic is not on the coin. next As seen in the above pic, the black spot above the eagle is not on the coin. The patina in the one REV pic is on the plastic container.

You sure it's a proof? Doesn't look like it.

 High grade coins like this are really hard to put a grade on with only photos. I see some spots @ 5 oclock on the obverse next to the rim in one photo but not the other. On the rev. I see something between the "IT" in United. And something above the beak on the eagle.

Sorry - my mistake - not a proof - the ASE error was not made in proof. Also thanks for what info you could give. I did not see the mark in between the "IT" and will have to see if this is the coin or holder the next time I can get it in hand. I am trying to decide on having it slabbed at a show this coming spring. Of course I am hoping for an MS70 and wondered if it was possible to get a decent idea as to whether it might hit this. This would be the first time I have seriously thought about getting a coin slabbed and know very little about it.

@Petersun
Not a proof of any sort - I am sorry for the initial mistake in my original list. This was issued as a burnished silver uncirculated coin, but only an estimated 40k were made with the reverse of the 2007.
Someone who knows more than me can correct this, but I think the term "proof like" is only relative to Canadian coins/sets.
Thanks for the help in this thread - I appreciate it.

PL is commonly applied to certain Morgans and SMS coins. There are others, notably some first strikes or presentation examples of old commemorative halves.

Thanks for the info. Now that leads me to another question. Was PL an intended moniker at the time these other non-Canadian coins were made? I remember back in the 70s seeing brochures from the RCM that labeled their sets as PL. I asked the local shop (I lived near the border) why this specific term was used and they said it was b/c the US made proof sets that were more of a mirror finish and the RCM coins were not the same mirror quality. I never thought about the validity of the answer until this thread!

PL sets always carried that name, Morgans picked it up in the 1960s.

if you send it to PCGS I wouldn't be surprised with a MS-67 on this coin and NGC seems to be a little more lenient on ASE's so I would guess 67-and maybe even a 68 there. I don't think it would go 69 at either because usually with a 69 a person would have a hard time seeing any marks without magnification

It will be awhile before I get this done - I plan n sending it with my local dealer to the Baltimore show this spring. I appreciate the info from everyone.
