Note the date. I think this could grade a G6.

Here's what I suspect may be the lowest grade, certified, U.S. pattern coin in existence. It's an 1855 Flying Eagle cent that was probably some long ago collector's pocket piece ...

Okay, ExoGuy, I gotta ask (not knowing the series): How did SEGS (whose attribution skills I do not question) manage to attribute that thing? I realize it may not be your piece; just hoping you have an idea.

Hi SuperDave ... It is my piece. My pics are admittedly poor; especially, since they were taken through the slab. The date is clearly there, as are parts of the legend. As heavy as the wear is, it's quite even, and the coin is without damage. SEGS, Larry Briggs, himself, does specific gravity tests when necessary. It's a milk chocolate copper coin, having a diameter that's comparable to a Half Cent. There are far fewer of this variety in existence than there are 1856's. It's been a fun coin to own, show and discuss. As it's experienced so much wear, I thought it best to get it securely slabbed.

Disappointed with the grade on this one. Was hoping for FR-02.

I need to get a lowball something, but don't want to pay a lot. Maybe I will come across it roll hunting.

Here's mine. 1904-O Barber quarter, bought for $3.95 a couple years ago as a 1904, but I'm pretty sure there's an O there.

Those are some really nice high grade coins. I thought this post was for "lowballs"? No date (1702-1728) 4 reales, wreck find on "Nuestra Senora de las Nieves"
