Hey guy's, I figured I would start up a "brag thread" so we can all post our most recent bullion purchases and possibly some pictures. I think a main thread is better then new threads being started every other day titled "Lookey what I bought!" So.. My recent purchase? Nothing special.. Bought 2 ASE's - 2011 & 2010 both for $33ea Bought 2 Engelhard 1oz bars both for $31ea I think I did pretty good Finally starting to get in good with my LCS. I was actually $2 short and he let me slide on that. Him and his father own the shop, I like them both a lot. Soo CCM members, brag away!

Quote: Soo CCM members, brag away! Lol! Well, as a fellow once said, "It ain't braggin' if you can do it!". Here is a pic of my silver hoard. It does not include the most recent addition of 4 tubes of of silver Maples. They came 2 days after I took this pic: My collection includes 8 tubes of Maples, 7 tubes of ASEs, 42 Morgans, 10 Peace dollars, 40 five oz. SilverTowne bars, 10 tubes of statehood proof quarters, a $100 canvas bag of BU Roosevelt dimes, 1 tube of BU Roosevelt dimes, 2 tubes of Walking Liberty halves, a tube of proof Kennedy halves, and a number of misc. silver coins of all denominations that I picked up at the local shops, a few here and there. Going through all this makes me want to add, "And a Partridge in a pear tree!".

Here is a group of JFK's I picked up at face value from a roll at the bank last year. Nice 100% silver 1964.

Silver made a little dropoff Friday afternoon and I picked up...a roll of Walking Libert Halves (mixed dates, filled 11 holes), 4 Morgan dollars, roll of merc dimes (haven't really gone through yet but a lot of early dates), 10 1964 Kennedy's, and about a dozen plastic tubes for...$498. He was 20x on the silver(think it should have been closer to 21.25x, that's why I left with no cash), 23 on each of the morgans, and tubes were 50 cents each I think.

At 73, I'm one of the older guys here but not one of the really knowledgeable ones. Back in 1964, the Kennedy halves made a big hit with everyone. My brother was going on his first trip to France. He was a teacher and had the summer off. He saved up his $$ and went for a couple of months. He heard that people in France would pay $40 to $50 for one Kennedy half. So during April and May, he went to the bank almost daily and got a roll of halves. He accumulated a lot of beautiful AU 1964 Kennedys. He acquired a money belt and gained a few pounds whenever he donned it about his waist. He flew Icelandic Airlines, a prop job. Cheapest way to get over. Took 24 hours. In France, he bought a motor scooter for cheap travel. He mostly slept out in the open in his sleeping bag. (Oh, to be young again!) He went from town to town but could not command a premium for his Kennedys. After about a month, he traded the lot at a Paris bank for face value in francs. He sent me a postcard expressing profound relief for finally unloading his burdensome cargo. Just a little anecdote from the past. That old money belt (loaded) would be worth a lot today! I personally still have two AU 64 Kennedys that I saved since those days, despite a lot of tumult in my own life.

That sounds like a fun adventure that your brother had! I don't have any personal knowledge, but I bet there were probably a few Kennedy halves sold over there for $40-50, but that was probably back when they were just released. After a week or two they probably traded for face. The same seems to happen today with some issues.

Quote: Add any more and you will have to brace the legs on that table Nice stash Lol, thanks, Trout. It's a pretty stout table but I know what you mean. This collecting business is addictive! Quote:Here is mine minus a big green box of ASE that reside in a local bank. VERY nice, TBK! Well done. Hey, I would have added some cash too but wondered about the legality of making and distributing copies of US currency / CCF rules. Apparently, it is not a problem. All of my 1/2 dollars are only 90% silver. Very nice story, Big-byte. It's great to hear about things like this. Does make a man year for the days of yore, though.
