Just got this one in the mail.. I think I got a really good deal on it, but I'm curious what grades you guys give it.

What a beautiful coin!
I'd grade it as MS-65FH minimum and MS-66FH seems totally in reach. Really outstanding, and quite a valuable piece. Congrats!

Maybe you would like to share what a "really good deal" means in this case? PCGS has it at $3250 in 65FH and this coin looks like it's worth it!

Very nice! I see no reason for it not to be MS-65. Probably dipped at some time, as I can't really believe it has not toned at all in 95 years.

Super coin! Great luster, if dipped it was a light one, that didn't take away any of that nice luster it seems, but these coins are so hard to grade from photos alone, same as incuse Indian gold, WL Halves and St. Gaudens Saints.

I'd go MS-64+++ even MS-65 not out of line, the rim ding on the obverse @ 6:00 would keep it out of MS-66 heights IMO.

Edit to add FH as well.

I should have mentioned, as westcoin did, that if it was dipped it was minimal as the luster is superb.

One of my favorite large online dealers has a tendency to undergrade coins from time to time. This one was graded as MS63FH.. and actually priced well below the normal heritage price for that range.. I paid $463 for this one including shipping. I was hoping it'd come in as MS64FH, but still be happy with a decent deal if it was a 63FH.

In hand, I'm torn between 64/65. There's the rim ding, which is the major detracting feature. There's a tiny pit on the coin (looks like from the die on her left leg. And there are a few individual stray.. i'll call them hairlines on the reverse. they are individual ones and not enough to be a scratch. Obviously those things arent too big or they would have shown up in the pictures though.

I've got submission priviliges to NGC as well as ANACS. Think this one is worth sending into NGC? Or should I perhaps find a dealer to send it to PCGS for me?
Rest in Peace

Yeah Mike, definitely send it to PCGS. NGC has been really random/picky lately. If you get a 65, worth it definitely.

My original thought was that this might go in my 7070... But after thinking about it, I'm too scared of getting friction from the slides to stick it there.. gonna have to slab it for my sanity :)

Hmmm, maybe the rim hit would keep it out of gem+ territory, but I'd still want it in a slab to prevent any accidental handling damage. I agree it's worth a shot at PCGS.

Other than that rim hit your coin has fewer marks than my 1917-P graded NGC MS64FH, details are at least as sharp, and the luster seems stronger. Your cost seems like a screaming bargain to me!

It's definitely a FH and a fantastic shot at 65.
I'm with jaobler, I would submit to PCGS see what happens.

ContraJame - Feel free to send me a PM - yours are currently turned off.. I dont really want to post it publically in the forum as:

1) Would look bad on the dealer
2) Would let anyone in the world know to cherrypick them.

But I dont mind sharing with a few friends on the forum :)

Spectacular coin! It has a good shot at 65 FH.
