I'm going to call myself out on the carpet. Late last night I found several auction listings that I found interesting. I bid on one of the items and then took a long look at the photo. Something seemed off. I've looked at hundreds and hundreds of PCGS slabs over the past several years but this slab looked really strange. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it was fake. I was so certain of it that I reported two of the three coins to ebay. I also posted a thread here asking other users to look at the auctions and point out what made them fake. the louder your voice, when posting on the internet, the more weight and authority people give it. Guided only by my sure insistence that the coins were fake, users looked at the auctions and came up with a list of reasons why they agreed. the topic was carried on to another forum as well. Before long things got out of hand. Thankfully, the coins are real and some users on this board made good arguments as to why they were real and helped me understand why I was wrong. They also gave me a healthy dose of criticism which was deserved. To fix the problem as best as I could I contacted the seller and apologized. Explained the steps I had taken and told him that I was wrong and that I wanted to make things right. I volunteered to buy the coins. I posted on the other forum that I was the reason why the auctions had been considered suspicious and explained that I was wrong and had contacted the seller to try to make it better. The seller had a 100% feedback and deals mostly in commemorative coins. I find out that he's upgrading his set to all MS-70s and is selling the ones he is replacing. Other buyers have come forward to explain that he is an honest buyer and seller. In this world and in this hobby we can only be sure of one thing- that we do not know everything. In my exuberance to help educate others- I learned an important lesson myself. Please learn from my mistake as I plan to not make the same one again. Thanks, charles

I applaud your actions after you found out they were real. Nobody is perfect. Sometimes character is best displayed in how we handle our mistakes. Well done on that account.

I didn't participate int he original thread, but I also immediately thought the same as you when I saw the slabs. I've never seen that variation of the label before.

Eh, just shake it off, we all make mistakes, at least you didn't buy a fake coin or something of the such.

Most of us do things from time to time that we look back upon with regret later. I am glad that you have taken the time to try to make things as right as possible. It speaks highly of you and the CCF community.

This topic is fake! j/k Live and Learn. Can't fault yourself for doing what you thought was right at the time. Admiting when you make a mistake takes alot of personal courage and morals. Kudos for you.

Pleased that you are here with us Charles and your contributions to date have been well-informed and offer a balanced view of reality from your educated experience. We all appreciate the demonstration of character and honestly that you display in this thread ... although I admit that way too many hours at work have caused me to miss the original post to which you are referring. Bottom line IMHO ... an honest man admits his mistakes and moves on. You have done so ... sooooo ... from my perspective ... thrilled to have you here with us. David

It needs a lot of courage for a person to say he was wrong and apologize ... I salute you for that

Don't worry, I've put my foot in my mouth plenty of times. I got my wrist slapped on this forum for an inappropriate post that I never should have posted. The important thing is lesson learned and we move onwards.

I must applaud your honesty and courage (while owing up) as well as your stick-to-it-iveness (while on both sides of your realization).
You have reached a major milestone in maturity that few deign to even approach for the mere fear of being wrong in the first place. :-)
