66 for the red, and 58 on the toner. I'm not that good at grading but I want to be cool like the rest of the people on here EDIT: Hmmm taking a second look, do I see some rub on the high points? Cheek, jaw, above ear....?

Is the red one a matte proof?

I like them both for different reasons -- one is practically perfect and the other looks like it lived a good life.

I was also going to say, it looks like a proof to me.
The first one I mean.

Hi, thank you for all the replies. Geesh, I have no idea if it is a matte proof. The red one is real nice, I was pretty surprised when I saw it in hand. This one came from another "garage sale" seller on ebay. Among the shoes, water skis, plates, vases and LP's was this and a few other Lincoln's and a bunch of Washingtons... all bad pics of course. How much for it? I would not have a clue... I have never sold a raw coin! I think I better get a few opinion because this coin has flat shiny rims. It can't be... theres no way? The toner came from an full wheat album that someone sold to a coin dealer while I was looking at mint sets at his shop. I bought a few of them right away as he was uninterested after taking out about 5 or 6 key dates. This 1916 has huge luster and I can't tell if there is rub or if it is a weak strike. It is amazing to look at the luster showing through.

I love the 1916 red. Maybe its just the 1916 coin in general. Though I do see the wear on the high points so I'm not exactly sure what it is. What is on the toner on the reverse on the N? I'm pretty sure its not a Matte proof though. it doesn't have the die markers of one I believe. Either way they are both beauty's

I don't know the markers for the matte proofs, but It's got sharp rims and a textured surface, and the reverse has a wire rim. Either way, it's a fantastic looking coin.

The "RED" Lincoln is a superb coin. GREAT strike of an early die state business strike. WOW! I would consider having this one slabbed.

First one, MS-65 but questionable color and the spots make is suspect for an old cleaning. I still like the coin though. It is definately not a matte proof.
Second one, AU-63 NICE TONER!
