I have 2 1c coins that are purple, what causes this?

This is why copper coins are more interesting than silver any day. I love how each one tones so individually and sometimes the results are spectacular.

Sorting through some old 2c coins today and found these two. Both 1982 uncirculated and have been stored rolled up in a paper bag from the Westpac bank. I think they look nice and might put them in mylars or capsules.

Beautiful rainbow colors on coins are delicate like flowers and don't last long, unfortunately. Life of rainbow colors can be extended by a good acetone soak, and enclosing the coin in a close fitting airtite capsule. Note: Beware of deliberate artificial rainbow toning. Easy enough to do, and shown in some ebay offers.
