Huh. I never bother to keep track, but I always get dollars & halves (also $2 notes) from the bank to spend.

Over the past few days:
1 dollar coin for a bag of chips
1 dollar and 1 half at a church fair
1 half at UPS store
5 dollars and 1 half at Burger King
1 dollar and 1 half at convenience store
----------------
10 total

$74,276 to go.

I got more reactions and comments about the coins this time than I usually do. Maybe because I spent them at diffrent places. I am still amazed when people don't recognize the dollar coins.

16 bits worth of Sacs spent today at McDonald's for a large coffee on my way into work.

$74,261 to go.

+==========================================================+

It's a win-win for me because when I spend the dollar coins, I get some shiny (hopefully) change back to possibly fill 2013 holes in my albums. I have a small stash of goldens that I'm trying to whittle down from every time I go to the bank and ask for "interesting" coins (I keep the shiny guys and burn the dull ones), so the McD's folk are going to get $20 in goldens a week from me for a ways into the future.

I do question the folks that are dropping a big number of these coins at once - no one pays for a $22 DVD at Best Buy with $22 in paper singles, so why would you do that with $22 of dollar coins? I realize we're trying to get these into circulation, but we also have to be ambassadors, not just spenders. We don't want to annoy people -- that doesn't help the cause.

Of course I'm making an assumption.... those of you who have dropped bigger numbers of dollar coins at once, do you get flak for it? Eye-rolls? "oh, it's you again." etc?

The last few days... (all JFKs)
$12 at Taco Bell
$4 at 7/11
$2 at a convenience store
$4 somewhere...
$8 In-N-Out

$74,231 to go.

For me, it's got a lot to do with half dollar roll hunting. I don't order boxes or anything but I do manage to get a lot of rolls, so spending them is the best way to get rid of them since I don't like just rerolling them and turning them back into the bank.

As a cashier, I know coins and $1s are always needed to make change, so as long as they are spent correctly it shouldn't be a big deal. Don't just plop a handful of coins in the cashier's hand without saying a word and expect him or her to be all cool with it lol. It helps if you count the coins out in piles in front of the cashier (saves having to double-count the coins), and better yet, if it's a purchase of more than.. $15, I think spending an entire roll would be best.
