Got this as a present from my Dad - first colonial. It'll be one I always hold onto. I believe it's a W-6190, Ryder 1-D. I'm not very good at grading these though.. Thoughts?

Haven't researched the die charts on this one but looks like a nice, original VG.
Most of the Massachusetts Cents I've seen have above average planchets as compared to other post Colonial issues. It's also from your dad which makes it that much more awesome!

1788: The year Captain Arthur Philip landed in Botany Bay To start the first British Colony in Australia. That was on the 26th of Janurary - Australia day.
The settlement was soon to be moved to Sydney Cove In Port Jackson, where the City of Sydney is now located.

I am less qulaified than most to grade this coin, but I will stick my neck out and say: 'VG'. I wish I had one!

It might actually be a choice VF. Some coins just have terrible strikes and didn't see much circulation. You really need to ask a colonial expert, though. Try out the PCGS or NGC forums.

I was thinking higher than VG also, but I have little knowledge in grading Colonials. Nice problem free planchet and well centered strike. A coin to be cherished forever!

Although this one is damaged, here is an NGC one to compare it to.
