I think under all that gorgeous toning lurks an MS64. One hot coin! I would definitely keep it if the price was right.

Dont mind my earlier post... I was looking at a different coin AU and I was replying to this at the same time. So I put AU. Love the toning and this is a really nice example. I would give it a MS-65 but looks to be a scratch by the "M" of "AMERICA"

Nice combination of residual lustre and toning. Alas, beauty of this delicacy cannot remain forever! Some folks may not like the mottled effect, but I like it; reminds me of a New England Fall. Best to house this one in an air tight capsule.
Do I spot the faintest amount of wear on the high points on Lady Liberty's hair band and boobs? EF58, perhaps MS, but I can't make up my mind about that; perhaps a slightly weak strike at those points.
I can't see many nicks and scratches in either field of this coin, may be obscured by the mottling. If there are none of these, MS63.
Hard for me to grade this one. If I were buying this beauty for myself, I would need to examine it in hand with a 15x loupe.

Sel, it's already housed in an NGC holder. I would not crack it out. Anothe reason I like slabs for coins like this. Protect that beautiful toning ;)

Dazzling! MS63 or AU58 because I think I see slightest cabinet wear OBV Under TY in LIBERTY Right Breast ( hers ) last two knuckles on hand area of hair above ear
REV Just a touch on kernels of corn on wheat tips corn leafs on left side and rims seem to have the very slightest of handling.

Just checked with a 10x loupe. Full luster on right boob and hair. The scratch near the M in America is on the slab. I think that the mottled toning makes the pics appear to show wear. With a loupe, I would say that this is a MS coin.

Seems as I am not seeing any wear, the focus on the photo is a bit soft, so I might be over looking a hidden mark or tick somewhere beneath all that gorgeous toning. Probably MS-65 if the luster is on the high points as you say, might go MS66 or even MS66* (since no TPG have certified a MS67 that isn't the case here NGC has a single 66*). The strike on the head is unusually strong, most 1890-S dimes exhibit a very flat head strike, even in MS66, but a very low pop in MS66 in all TPG's. It's the best full strike liberty head on an 1890-S dime I've ever seen. A super coin! PCGS/NGC Population in MS66: PCGS-1 NGC-7 Graded Higher - none in either service.

Dang I really thought this would hit a MS65 grade, but it sure is a super nice coin, as I stated, a VERY full head on the strike, take a look at other 1890-S dimes at Heritage Auctions, you'll see almost all of them have flat no detail in the head area on MS60 and above strikes, I still think this could be a MS65 coin unless there is a small tick hiding under all that beautiful toning somewhere I can't see in the photo! Might be worth of an upgrade attempt with PCGS, IMO. I don't blame you for wanting to keep it for yourself, a superb piece.
