Subject line says it all. Went to pick up my order of 1 box each cents, nick's and dime's. Got to the car and realized they were all new 2012D. What should I do with them. I don't care to keep them all. Should I split them and sell? Sell by the box?

Owassokie,
Hold on to 2012-D for now!
I may want a few rolls of 2012D cents & nick's...
We normally get new P rolls here in Michiagan, but have not seen any 2012 cents & nick's yet.

the mint made so many 2012 pennies this yr - 2012 D mintage will be around 557 m plus another 800 m for the P id give the penny box back and ask for another id probably just give all the boxes back as to not tie up any money and ask for different ones

Hang on to them for now if you can. You can also look for errors and varieties as well as high grade ones.

If you can, hold onto those boxes and take steps to preserve them by sealing them in a air tight bag.

Why?

It can take years before collectors realize all the possible mint errors. Having a pristine set of rolls could demand a high price on ebay if there is a possibility for getting a MS69 error coin!

i have been finding one or 2 2012 pennies and nickles, but havent kept them. I'm not much of a modern coin guy.

BUT, when I did get a bunch of 2010 pennies fresh from the mint, I listed them on ebay and made a killing!@!

i think one box $25 pennies went for $140 NO JOKE... you gotta strick while the iron is hot, know what I mean? you will get a lot of people itching to get the new ones, and they seem to always be willing to pay.

honestly you never know, this could very well be the last year for US, but likely 2013. After elections and everything. Of course nothing rash would happen before them.

Thanks for all the input. I've looked on ebay and it looks like there is some money to be made. I'm not sure if I want to take the time and effort to piece them out but I like the idea of holding on to a few of them. I've opened the box of cents but no rolls. Both the Dimes and Nickels are still in their sealed box. The only problem with selling them as a sealed box on ebay is I don't know for certain they are 2012 D. The boxes are the kind where the have the holes to verify the contents but I can't see through the crimp to verify what year and mint, or even if they are definitely all BU. I've looked at the cents and I'm near certain they are all brand new because I've verified all the obverse end coins to be 2012 D. I also know the nickels and dimes are all shinny and feel confident they are as well but again not certain. Do you think I can list the nickels and dimes as sealed 2012 D BU?

the nickels and dimes are all shinny but are you sure they are 2012,
I just got a few rolls of new nickels from store...thinking they would be 2012
But they were just left-over 2011 rolls!

You can usually make pretty good money from the boxes on ebay at the beginning of the year. Last year I sold a ton of 2011 d boxes of nickels and cents, but towards the end of the year they were not going for as much so I just dumped them.

Owassokie

would love to trade, Iv got new rolls of 2012 and 2011 P mint pennies. Could trade even on pennies, and buy a few rolls of those d nickels and dimes off ya. Ill ship first to you, I trust you from the half dollar thread. I only kept one box of 2012 pennies, and half box of 2011's, phillies is what I get around here no new d rolls to come by. Let me know if you have interest in that.

Steve, I'm going to hold off on the nickels and dimes for sure. I'd really like to just sell them as a box because I don't want to keep any and I don't feel like piecing them out on ebay.

HalfHunter, I would be interested in trading some 2012P. How do we get in contact. I don't think I have permission to message yet.
